Just downloaded an update on xbox live, never had a problem before and now it doesnt work at all. At first I got 3 red lights and then I tried microsofts solution of unplugging out of my power strip and into the wall. It turned on but now it makes a loud noise of the speaker and then i get artifacts and it freezes. I cant wait for Microsoft to tell me that since i bought mine at launch that its out of warranty. But they are responsible cause it broke right after the update.

MS extended the warranty for one year for all 360s made before the end of 2005.

I sure hope so cause if i get the usual "this will cost 140 dollars to fix" the operator on the other line is gonna get an earful. I just got my ps3, no games for it yet.

They just said they'll repair any 360's from launch for free. Calm down.

Where did they say that? I've been thinking maybe they are doing this because the first versions of the console are hackable, could they be bricking them on purpose?

It's pretty common knowledge. And stop making up random, BS theories about them purposely trying to screw you. Jesus christ...just chill out. Go have a beer.

Nope, completely stock. Was trying to play NCAA 2007 on xbox live, downloaded update and then it killed it. I didnt have any problems with the November 1st update that killed some of the consoles.

Google is your friend

Microsoft issued a statement today acknowledging that its early run of Xbox 360s made in 2005 were buggy and that it would rescind any repair fee on boxes that need service as long as they were manufactured before Jan. 1, 2006. The statement is in response to a raft of complaints from gamers such as Chris Szarek, whose story we told on this blog about how he went through four consoles in the repair process. Szarek said today that this validates concerns that he and others had about the quality of the launch consoles. Those who paid repair fees already will get refunds.

Here's Microsoft's statement:

As part of our standard and ongoing process of analyzing repair data, we recently noticed a higher than usual number of units coming in for repair. Upon further investigation, it was further discovered that the bulk of the units were isolated to a group that was part of the initial manufacturing run of the console. Returns for repair are coming in for a variety reasons and it's a higher rate than we are satisfied with. We've made the decision to comp repairs for consoles manufactured before January 1, 2006, and provide refunds to the small group of customers who have already paid for repairs.

Sucks to be you! :p You should have gotten your game from EB Games and with a warranty! That way, if n e thing goes wrong, you could just take it back and get another one.

That way I can contribute to the stupid warranty plans that everybody offers these days and they make millions off of. If you really wanna know why I'm pissed its because everybody makes piss poor products these days. I just had to RMA a DFI motherboard. My Crucial Ballistix memory, keeps dying after 5 RMA's, they know they have a problem but refuse to acknowledge it. It costs money and time to do these things and I have a right to get aggravated when something like this happens. Coming in a thread and calling me an idiot is just making yourself look bad. I'm not insulting anybody here, I have just as much right to be here as you do and I didnt violate any of the rules while posting.

Ctark, when you post a thread like this and you are told that your 360 is currently still under warranty and will be replaced for free and then you still go on to complain in an uninformed manner and then say you sent an email instead of calling....expect a backlash.

Just be glad you didn't say you were getting your 360 replaced through some other means and then proceed not to explain how.

I emailed because that was one of the options it gave me on their support page. I'll call if I have to and when I get the chance.
