They can only track you if they have a reader. There are definitely a few reasons to be chipped, the strongest one I can think of at the moment is a medical condition.


Edit - For example your entire medical history on a chip, so when you go unconcious from something they know your medical history at the hospital/ambulance.
 
Not a big fan, aside from possibly those with medical conditions. Possibly young children as well, but once they turn 18, they should have the option of having it removed.
 
no way, I hate little hard nubs and that would get super annoying. Plus the idea of getting stuff embedded in me, ugh no thank you.
 
I can see its benefits if you have medical conditions.
Its just creepy, although the cats and dogs don't seem to mind.
There was that story of a dog that was found over a year later, 6 states away from home.
If it wasn't for the rfid then he would never have been returned.

But unless the person is out, they can tell people what they want to know.

For those interested its a passive device.
Has no power source, etc and only becomes active under the reader.
Its similar to those little tags on things that go off if you shoplift.

If I wind up needing a pacemaker or something when I am old, I'll probably want one so they can read my medical stuff at the hopsicle. Otherwise, not likely.
