Mic and vent issue,

honkydory

Member
Not really sure what it is, I cant hear my own voice or anything but when i am talking in vent people hear whatever i hear.

Vista home premium, razer baracuda's, ect.

Either they are just receiving feedback from your speakers or you have your recording device set so that your waveout is going to line out.

I have this same issue, using my microphone on windows Vista, i am able to record my voice, but while using my mic at any time i am unable to hear my own voice, or any other sounds. Can anyone think of a way to fix this?

It's a common problem in Ventrilo. It's also easy to fix.

From the Ventrilo FAQ page:
Have this person go into Ventrilo Setup and select a Mixer for the sound card that will be the sound input device (as determined by the "Input device" option). This will populate the Mux and Line options. Normally there should only be one Mux. It's possible that you might have numerous Line options. Go ahead and select "Microphone" or what ever is appropriate for the input line and then click OK.

My EQ2 guild uses Vent and we often have people joining us with the problem. This has always fixed the problem.

That might be helpful for the other guy, since he's using vent. However my problem is not a vent-related one. Whenever I'm using my microphone, I am unable to hear the sound that I am currently making. When recording my voice with Windows Sound Recorder I am unable to hear anything, but I can play back whatever I said. I believe it's an input/output issue but I have no idea how to fix this. I read someplace about bypassing something on Vista, does anybody have an idea? I want to be able to hear myself so I know what my microphone is picking up when I'm recording sound (i.e. the fan or background noise). Thanks in advance!

Ventrilo, as far as I know doesn't allow you to hear your own voice while transmitting. I think most people would hate that to be honest. There is an option to hear "clicks" at the start and end of your transmision though. I don't know if that would help you. You may be able

I'm a bit like you in that I like to know for sure if Vent is transmitting, but I also have a Logitech g-15 keyboard. The newest Vent client supports the LCD display so it will tell me if I am transmitting or not. It also tells me who is transmitting as well as several other features. But, That's not going to help unless you have one.

Griffinhart, I'm not using Ventrilo at all. My problem is in general. When using my mic with any program. This is not just Ventrilo. On AIM it shows me that it is recording sound. I know the mic is working, but I can't hear myself talking. Thanks though. Can anyone else help me?
