Miami Heat: 2006 NBA Champs

The Heat are going to cakewalk over everyone next year. Trading for Antoine Walker, Jason Williams and Posey for basically Eddie Jones is a major coupe. On top of that, Shaq signed for less money than he could of and they still have 5 million to spend 😀

eh, Posey might start with Toine coming off the bench. (didnt work in dallas). they lost damon jones (5th in 3pt % and their PG). jason williams demands a lot of shots and isnt the best. on paper, it looks nice to have all these names, we gotta wait and see if it works.

edit: i'm a nets fan. 🙂

Yeah, because scooping up all the best players you can find really worked for the Lakers against Det-riot two years ago... I think not, I'll still take the Spurs to repeat now that the Suns imploded.

Errr... did you miss how Walker killed the Mavericks 2 seasons ago? That guy has to be the most overrated player in the NBA, he cannot finish at the basket and is turnover prone. I think the only reason he was able to score 20+ points in Boston was all the 3 pointers he launched.

I don't believe 'Antoine Walker' and 'NBA Champion' belong in the same sentence.

How about "Antioine Walker" and "crucial 4th quarter turnover?" 😛

they'll be in the finals, i think, but not sure if they can beat the spurs or whoever comes out of the west. hopefully dwanye wade will have another monster season though.

I agree these moves sound good, but let's see how it pans out....

this is NOT at all comparable to the Lakers adding Payton and Malone - 2 players well past their primes at the time...

I think, quite honestly, that Posey is the best player in the deal, assuming his health issues are behind him..he's a GREAT defender, a versatile scorer, and a good guy...

Williams? Never been a fan, but he's an upgrade over Damon Jones, and he'll allow Wade to get more open shots....Damon Jones is a nice spot-up 3pt shooter, but he's a crappy defender and has no handle at all, probably the worst ball-handling pg in the NBA....still, he was very popular in their locker room.

Their first round pick from last year's draft is an excellent shooter as well, and unlike last season, he should be ready to contribute something off the bench....

They do look tough...

I think the balance of power in the NBA is shifting back to the Eastern Conference - I know that sounds blasphemous to some people, but other than the Spurs now, no one out West scares teams...and I think Pheonix would be making a huge mistake letting Joe Johnson go....Houston is the only other possibly dominant team for next season out west....the East has the Heat, the Pistons, the Pacers with Artest back, and the Cavs looking much improved....

west still has Dallas, Seattle, Sacramento. Not bad teams if you ask me.

I agree.. What you have to understand here is that Walker isn't even projected to be a starter, you are talking about having Walker and ZO on the bench.

Damon Jones is a POS with no ability to play D. Jason Williams is MUCH more of a true PG and will provide an immediate spark. One CONSISTENT theme during Pat Rileys tenure here has been that discarded players always play well in Miami, they are kept in check and tend to mold well with the team. From Tim Hardaway to Ike Austin to Bruce Bowen, the list of have beens that have excelled in Miami is long.. I think this trade will really shift the balance of power, the Heat are now a legitimate NBA title contendor for years to come. They gave up Eddie Jones for two all star caliber players and still have Wade (who has yet to peak) and Shaq in the middle. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I'm a nets fan as i stated above, by why is everyone so quick to write off the Suns?

IMO, Joe J. was overrated....also now with Kurt Thomas (who is a little undersized to be a center in the west), Amare moves over to PF.
Yes, they also lost Q, and they wont repeat last season, but still a top team out west.

even though Walker, Williams and Posey aren't great players, the Heat made the best move by getting rid of Eddie Jones, who was just useless during the regular season.

IMO Jason Williams has really gotten his act together the last few years. I no longer consider him the type of player who could sink a team. He's not a great player, but it will be interesting to see him on the court enough to make Wade an SG full time.

Antoine Walker is still the type of player who could sink a team, IMO. But he also could help a team. Just depends on how well stan van gundy can keep him reined in.

Miami and New Jersey have made some major moves. Next year looks good for the East.

Can't say the same about the West though. I think Seattle's lost too much and Phoenix still doesn't have enough depth. Spurs look better. I think Houston and Denver are the only other 2 teams that even have a chance. I'm rooting for my Warriors though - I think we'll finally break our playoff drought.

winning an NBA championship is about teamwork, defense, and chemistry.

jason williams and antoine walker have none of those.

as a Piston's fan, i'm more worried about a healthy Pacers team than Miami. the Pacers are tough, well coached, and play top notch defense.
