Talk says there is now a 50-50 chance of the Mets trading for Sosa. Probably trading either Floyd or Piazza. If its Floyd(seems more likely), the cubs would need to take some of Sosa's money

Talk about Piazza also being traded to Anahiem.

Talk about Leiter leaving for the Yanks.

Talk about trading for Soriano, but the Rangers only want Reyes who the mets wont give up

Does any Met fan want Sosa? I dont, but maybe I should?

update 12-17:
well according to Insider The Mets are the high bider right now on Delgado offering 50-55 million over 4 years, about $10 million less then he wants, but more then the Orioles are offering and the mariners seem to be out of the running now and no word from the dodgers

meanwhile the Mets also plan on holding back and seeing what happens with the market, then if the price is right coming in at the end and overbidding everyone at the last second on Beltran

one can dream, one can dream

Reyes
Matsui
Delgado
Beltran
Piazza
Floyd
Wright
Cameron
Pedro

update:
Mets plan offering Beltran, near $100 million contract (Boras wants $119 over 7 years), this after 4 execs meet with him in puerto rico ....so far it seems the Yankees wont be a role in this as of yet (Steinbrenner asked his 'team' who would they rather Randy or Beltran if they had to replay the Sox...they all voted Randy

mets also hope to stay in puerto rico and meet with Delgado. The Orioles also plan on meet with him this week

could we get both carlos'?

Trading Piazza for Sammy is a big mistake. Floyd/Sosa is a tossup.

Last I read, the Mets are open to trading Reyes. Hell, they traded untouchable Kazmir! (Yes, I'm still pissed about that)

Piazza's stats were horrible last year. He prob. would do decent in the AL as a DH, but the Mets would have to pay some of his salary I'd assume.

I don't know Sosa's #s from last year, so I'm not sure how I favor these potential dealings.

Hell, the Mets may not even get to sign Benson.

Almost every guy mentioned in this post is past his prime and had a bad season.

I love how the Mets management is always having press releases about who they're "interested" in. How they were "interested" in Manny, that's great, but who are you going to give up to get him, and how will you pay his contract? They are interested in Beltran, ok, but Anaheim and NY are more likely to outbid you! And now they're interested in Sosa... The Mets = Indian giver of baseball dreams

Hey, trade everyone. It obviously wasn't working with the current guys. I see no reason to stop cleaning house.

*sigh* sounds like things are running as normal in the Mets organization. Management sure makes it hard to be a Mets fan with all of the stupid things they do.....

Sosa (and a re-done contract) for Floyd is fine for the Mets. Also rumored is Piazza for Jose Guillen.... also not a horrible deal. Minaya said he'd possibly trade Reyes, but not for Soriano straight up..... If they wanted to include Texiera, that would be fine :)

Mets have THE WORST management of all of baseball. Trading for Benson and Zambrano was just flat out stupid. They're also the suckers who traded for Mo Vaughn. Trading away Kazmir, their #1 prospect, was brainless. They're almost as stupid as the Padres management trading for Brian Giles (for ROY Jason Bay and LH power pitcher Oliver Perez).

The Zambrano trade... yes the was terrible. But the Benson trade can be considered a wash. They gave up a B level prospect and a bench player. The Former management was horrible, but we can hope that Minaya does the right thing and THINKS before he acts.

the suckers who traded for Mo Vaughn.

I thought that Mo'ron was a free agent that the Mets were 'in serious competition with many other teams" to line up and sign him? Maybe Im wrong.

Peace

I totally forgot about him! But he didn't exactly light the league up with his .228 BA and .296 OBP (although his power numbers were nice, 21 HRs for the Mets and 52 RBIs, which is a great total for that dismal team) anyway. Most of his numbers came early in his tenure with the Mets. His was an easy option to decline.

i just dont get it...Sosa is not the answer to the mets problems....do the Mets have any relief pitchers? or any pitchers at all? OUr starting 5 are glavine, Trachsel, Zambrano, Benson (if we sign him), Seo...

I would be much happier if we didnt sign/trade for a huge name, but instead got role players for all the positions

the only time in the last 15 years the mets did well, Piazza was our biggest name, we had decent outfielders, great defensive infield, and 1 big pitcher followed by guys who could get the job done, but not amazing

yeah we got a while before we are good again

1992 was "The worst team money could buy"...it took us till 99 to get back to the playoffs

2002 was "the only team that can be even worse while spending more money", so it gonna be another 5 years or so
