Yeah . . . with my Android Trooper LS sound system, I can switch easily between Van Halen's "Drop Dead Legs" and Martin Galling performs Complete works for Harpsichord by JS Bach. I feel unsettled this weekend after calling AAA from my bank yesterday for a tow: the Trooper needs either a new starter motor or solenoid. If parts are available at O'Reilly's, there should be no problem for the repair shop's choice. I just don't like having the Trooper out of commission for three or four days. I'm running the numbers on the gasoline, and I created a CARMAX account and started looking at pre-owned Prius's -- save it for "Garage"

I've been informed that I can't just "walk off" 15 lbs. As Igor mentioned, I have to reduce my intake. I tried to do it today, and I keep thinking of a cigarette every hour or so and even with the Chantix.

What if I eat fried Chicharrones? Why wouldn't that help? I successfully avoided driving my backup truck to the Wienerschnitzel to get three of those all-beef chili-dogs with on-yones. God! I want one of them chili-dogs! If the Trooper were running, I'd be down there in the drive-thru by now . . .

On the topic -- from their depictions in TV like "Breaking Bad" or "Law and Order" -- it would seem that Meth-heads don't have a problem with being over-weight. They don't have a problem thinking clearly, either . . . Nobody would want their problems . . .

I once took about two Dexedrine weight-pills daily so I could stay awake five days running to bone up for a 17-th century History of Ideas final. I was about 21 years old. Told myself after I woke from crashing that I'd never do such a thing again, and I never did. I sure wouldn't try it at 75.

LATER -- has it been an hour? Now I'm thinking about KFC original recipe. I'm gonna run out the truck. I can't even remember what I've already eaten today. Yes -- it was honey-nut cheerios and milk.

Original recipe it is, then . .

It is possible to reduce weight by just eating mostly protein and fat and green salads and leaving out all carbs. But the protein must not be too much otherwise the body has a sneaky habit of converting protein into carbs.

For losing weight,

Avocado is good.

Pure butter is good.

Eggs are good.

But all of the above will work in isolation or together. Mixing them with other stuff won't get you the results you want.

One trick I read about is to get a small container of Hershey's cacao and also vanilla powder. When you feel hungry, open them up and smell. They help to reduce cravings and may suppress hunger.

Medicare should pay you. The three items sound good, but what if I use fried tortilla chips with the guacamole? Butter, eggs all good, but you want to put the butter on something like a biscuit or toast. Time to make some scrambled eggs, just a bit runny. Tomrrows breakfast agenda, then. Moms will love it.

Oddly, I got the KFC original 4-piece dinner box. Half a chicken in pieces. I'm full after the leg and wing and the cole slaw. Momsy had her diaper change, and I can watch TV for an hour before the nurse arrives for her visit.

I still keep thinking about a Camel 99 . . .

Nope. You gotta cut out the carbs to lose weight.

The other extreme is, eat only white rice and fruits and one boiled egg with a little salt on it. This diet has minimum fat but the body needs fat so what's it gonna do? It will get the stored fat from within itself so you burn off fat a lot faster. It's much harder than the protein/avocado/butter diet but it works just as well (maybe even better).

Remember, both these diets burn off fat without exercise, though a little walk is good to keep your muscles from getting atrophied.

. . . and try to regain lung capacity . . .

Another bottle of Martinelli's. The remaining KFC will be leftover for tomorrow.

After my close relatives and my best friend who died this year, after my good CT scan results, after finding out about clear lungs again -- maybe I beat the reaper for now. But I want to stop this trend toward excess of 200 lbs . . .

I'm really lucky so far. I shouldn't be whining about it.

GREAT LANDMARKS OF RIVERSIDE, CA

I've been all over. Mt. Rushmore. Various places in the Rockies. Gettysburg. The list goes on.

But I've discovered that my hometown right here has a lot of very important places.

I went out in my truck today.

First, I saw the Subway restaurant. Then, KFC. Mr. Taco. Taco Bell. Del Taco. R Burger. Johnny Burgers. In-n'-Out Burgers. MacDonald's. Burger King. Wendy's. Pizza Hut. Pick-up-Stix.

What a day! All of those great places! I only had to drive about ten miles! You'd think we'd have more tourists!

No you don't. All you need to do is reduce your caloric intake. I personally lost well over 100 lbs (and have kept it off) and never cut out carbs. All the better if you can burn some extra calories too, but reducing intake in a sustainable way is the most important factor. But you do need to be fully honest in figuring out how many calories you're taking in, you can't exclude a snack or a soda or what-have-you (and should really just drink water, not soda or juice, even diet varieties).

The key to weight loss is to understand the role of the hormone insulin and one of its stimulators, which are digestible carbohydrates.

1. Carbohydrates, even in a mini dose, can expand the appetite on contact, especially combined with meat. That's why I wind up eating certain more bacon when it has sugar than without(Recent, Gwalteny and Harris Teeter's bacon contain sugar. I ate the whole pound of Gwalteny and 6 pieces of the Teeter. I usually eat only three pieces if the bacon is unsalted). Your chili dogs and KFC are an example of meat+carb, which will induce a large insulin response.

2. Insulin inhibits fat lipolysis. So fat will be preserved and glucose is utilized first.

3. Insulin and other hormones like ghrelin rise and fall. When insulin falls, it signals the brain to "feel hungry".

Thus, the matter becomes both of reducing load/amount and frequency.

Examples of frequency reduction is the likes of OMAD(One meal a day) or 2MAD. I accidentally stumbled into OMAD and 2MAD after a week-long fast last fall, finding out that I could function for a while just eating a single meal a day.

Reducing amount/load is a matter of substitution and/or elimination. Going Keto is near-elimination(there is an allowance of perhaps 20 grams, no fiber restriction). If you can't fully resist the sweet tooth, eat a more fibrous sweet, like nuts, legumes, low to moderate sugar fruits. If you crave the burger, fried chicken, hot dog, substitute berries, organic peanut butter, apples, or orange. Or go for some high quality fish like red salmon, or sardines in EVOO

Drinks will become much more boring, because your options will be coffee, tea, high quality milk(maybe lactose-free), water, maybe "herbals", and not much else.

Weight is also a bit of a red herring, as micronutrient deficiencies can also be an issue if you cut the grains out(B-vitamin complex). There is another level of healthy eating beyond just reaching a weight, and that is getting a comprehensive intake of micros.

Comprehensive foods include
Organ meats, like liver
Fatty Fish(Red salmon has astaxanthin and a large supply of Omega-3s), preferably wild
Legumes/nuts or nut butters
Pasture-raised eggs
A weekly multivitamin
Fermented food, both plant and animal.

The reduction of intake is "visceral manipulation" rather than rigidly conscious "left-brain".
Fiber takes up space and makes you "ache".
Fat without sugar satiates
Protein without sugar is very filling.
No "insulin cycle" means the feeling of hunger crops up less.

There is also fasting to gain autophagy.

Digestible non-fibrous Carb -limited or-eliminated Mediterranean is the way to go.
