Thanks for the suggestion, but we didnt care for it.

You have dashed my hopes and ruined my life :(

Surely you can find something from Dream Theater
Given that their songs are very technical and on average close to 10 minutes long, perhaps not the best choice for a first dance.

Opeth instantly comes to my mind.
A lot of people have actually recommended Opeth to me as a band I would like...may have to check them out now.

There are several DT songs that are short and sweet. Vacant, I Walk Beside You, and Wait for Sleep could all work.

I generally don't like death metal (I hate growling), but Opeth is one amazing death metal band (I actually don't mind Mikael's growling). While they have quite a few mellow songs scattered about all of their albums, Damnation is nothing but mellow songs.

Yes, Opeth is GREAT. Love their mellow stuff, their diversity is amazing. Being a woman, I'd recommend them. Give them a listen.

Listened to the samples on iTunes for the Opeth "Damnation' album...while none of them jumped out as a wedding song, it does sound like an incredible album...gave me a bit of an early Yes vibe...more progressive then metal, which is actually more to my musical tastes...I also like Rush, early Genesis, Jethro Tull, and some of the other 70s progressive rock bands...my fiancee doesn't care for that genre so much.

Within Temptations and Nightwish also sound like bands I would like...definitely in the Lacuna Coil and Gathering end of the spectrum. However, I think we are leaning more towards male vocals...a good growler that can sing, in the Seether/Shinedown/Stone Sour end of the spectrum.

 for Black Label Society, Faith No More and King's X.

King's X - Goldilox (lyrics don't apply to a wedding much, though)

It is a lovely song, but a bit too goth and also chick singer...should have specified that the little lady is not big on metal bands fronted by women.

Right now the contenders are:

"Vermilion: Part 2" by Slipknot - a beautiful acoustic song from what is otherwise an extremely heavy band, but the lyrics seem to suggest a tormented stalker scenario.

"So Far Away" by Staind - most Staind songs are about Aaron Lewis' struggles with addiction and depression, and subsequent recover. This song in particular, while a bit more positive, still isn't a "love" song per say.

"Broken" by Seether w/Evanescence chick

None of the three songs/bands you listed above growl, or are metal at all. You want something more like that?
Slipknot is certainly metal.
Staind was metal on their first two albums, but has veered more towards ballads on their last few albums.
Seether I would consider metal, or hard rock.

What we don't want is the typical Journey/Foreigner pop rock ballad.

Have you ever heard Vermillion Part 2...it is acoustic, but still has a metal vibe...if the words weren't so dark, it would be the perfect song for us.

If you look at the common thread across most of the bands we like...Shinedown, Stone Sour/Slipknot (since it is the same singer), Soundgarden etc...these are guys that can sing, but whose vocals aren't necessarily polished. We aren't looking for a metal sounding love song...we are looking for a love song with a metal vibe, by a band that typically doesn't aim for top 40 ballads.

I know you are supposed to pick a song that has meaning to the couple, but all of "our songs" are a bit creepy lyrics wise.

King's X - Goldilox (lyrics don't apply to a wedding much, though)
Did you see the song listing for their new album Ogre Tones...they re-recorded Goldilox...I hope the new album is good...their last 2 or 3 were kind of meh...but they are a great band to see live.

I've got all the Slipknot albums. They're not metal.
What would you classify them as? Sure, they don't fit the Sabbath/Judas Priest/Iron Maiden mold...but they are hardly pop rock...some might dismiss them as nu-metal, but whatever...Corey has one of the most powerful voices in rock today, and many of the band members are quite proficient and talented musicians, as evident in most of their side projects.

Led Zeppelin's Rain Song
Good tune for sure, but the intro to Stairway is probably their best "slow" song...although also terribly cliche.

Saving some Zeppelin tunes for later in the evening when the alcohol has been flowing for a bit.

Try Apocalyptica's cover of Nothing Else Matters
Wow...these guys do symphonic covers? Their cover of "From Out of Nowhere" by Faith No More was pretty cool.

More appropriate as a mother/groom dance song.

I'll be seeing Queensryche later this month @ HOB in Downtown Disney!
I'll probably see you there...is Mindcrime 2 any good? Haven't picked it up yet, and their recent offerings haven't been solid since DeGarmo left the band...also, I saw the Ryche several years ago...Geoff Tate goes through more outfit changes in a set then Cher.

Honestly - I don't care for it. I guess I was looking for the magic like I experienced from Mindcrime1. I haven't really liked much from them since Empire.

But - maybe I really haven't given it a chance.

Even though I live in Tampa, we are staying at the Grosvenor, right next to Downtown Disney, we'll be able to walk to the concert, and stumble back. :p
