then consider queen's "you take my breathe away", "love of my life", "good old-fashioned lover boy", or even "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)"... is there an all-english version?

God, there's one Queen song that would just ROCK RIGHT OUT. I can't remember the name...something about "Seven seas collide..."

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I'd stare too long
I'd probably break down and cry

Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine

I am a metal head...as is my fiancee...here is a list of our favorite bands, most of whom we have seen live at one point or another:

Metallica, Korn, Dream Theater, Tool, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Staind, GnR, Alice in Chains, Lacuna Coil, Symphony X, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed, Type O Negative, Soundgarden, Black Label Society, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Faith No More, Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Iron Maiden, Kings X, Queen, Queensryche, Aerosmith, Rammstein, Led Zeppelin, Audioslave, Van Halen, POD, Deftones, etc.

Our wedding is in September, and we want to have our first dance be from a metal band...problem is, not many metal bands go the acoustic or ballad route...except for perhaps the big haired eighties metal bands, and their songs are a somewhat cliche...there will be no Poison, Warrant, Nelson, Extreme or Winger at the wedding, although I ashamed to say I do have some of those albums :D

Aerosmith might be the obvious choice, but even their love songs are a bit over played and mainstream.

A few songs we like, but the lyrics screw things up:

"Vermilion: Part 2" by Slipknot - a beautiful acoustic song from what is otherwise an extremely heavy band, but the lyrics seem to suggest a tormented stalker scenario.

"So Far Away" by Staind - most Staind songs are about Aaron Lewis' struggles with addiction and depression, and subsequent recover. This song in particular, while a bit more positive, still isn't a "love" song per say.

So given our musical tastes from the band list above, and the need for a slow song we can dance to, any suggestions? A lot of bands sometimes do obscure covers, radio station acoustic sessions or other songs that, while not officially released on an album, might answer the mail for what we need. We are getting a bit burned out on scanning through iTunes listings and message boards for the right mix of song tempo and lyrics, but from a band that reflects our musical tastes.

However, once the old folks call it a night, and our friends are nice and wasted, we plan on getting the mosh pit started.

Seven Seas of Rhye or something like that I think...

What about Shinedown's cover of "Simple Man"? It's on their first CD.

Edit: Aerosmith - Angel isn't really overplayed that much (these days) and is a pretty good song too.

if thats the song i'm thinking of, thats a great song thats been covered by many bands.

Lana Lane does a good version and there's some 80s band that did it but i can't think of the name now. they're not very well known.

edit: VAIN was the other band!

here are the lyrics:

Lay me down in a bed of roses
Touch my lips before I sleep
You're with me now but when I close my eyes
She's in my dreams and the pain's still deep

Like a candle in the wind I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through your window
You see right through my heart
Like a candle in the rain I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through a window
You see right through my heart

I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal time will heal all wounds
I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal time will heal all wounds

Lay me down in a bed of roses
Feel the thorns they cut my heart
The drops of blood they fall and mix with all my tears
Have I given up on love

Like a candle in the wind I'm easy to put out
Like a picture through your window
You see right through my heart

I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal time will heal all wounds
I never knew that nights could be so long
Without you
And only time will heal time will heal all wounds

its a really beautiful song

Tracks Morphine Child, Handful of rain, Chance

Worth a shot I think

Actually using that as the mother of the groom song, given that the lyrics are of a mother singing to her son.

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Again, if we take lyrics out of the equation, then there are tons of potential songs...the lyrics for Nothing Else Matters really say nothing at all.

I have all of the Savatage albums, but honestly, they never get a lot of airplay...may have to give them a second listening.

You can't really dance to Metal. Not in a traditional first wedding dance sort of way, anyway.

Breaking Benjamin - The Diary Of Jane (Acoustic)

It's a metal song only toned down with acoustic piano.

Of course not, but many metal bands are talented enough to pull out the acoustic guitars from time to time, or do a harder version of typical staple classic rock ballads.

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don't just say
and nothing else matters

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
but I know

Never opened myself this way

Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us, something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

never cared for what they say
never cared for games they play
never cared for what they do
never cared for what they know
and I know

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
No, nothing else matters

That's perfect IMO.

Nothing Else Matters is more a song against conformity...actually message wise, there isn't a whole lot of difference between Nothing Else Matters and Unforgiven...Unforgiven is simply the more bitter of the two songs.
