Metal Heads In Need of A First Dance Wedding Song

I am a metal head...as is my fiancee...here is a list of our favorite bands, most of whom we have seen live at one point or another:

Metallica, Korn, Dream Theater, Tool, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Staind, GnR, Alice in Chains, Lacuna Coil, Symphony X, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed, Type O Negative, Soundgarden, Black Label Society, Shinedown, Stone Sour, Faith No More, Velvet Revolver, Stone Temple Pilots, Iron Maiden, Kings X, Queen, Queensryche, Aerosmith, Rammstein, Led Zeppelin, Audioslave, Van Halen, POD, Deftones, etc.

Our wedding is in September, and we want to have our first dance be from a metal band...problem is, not many metal bands go the acoustic or ballad route...except for perhaps the big haired eighties metal bands, and their songs are a somewhat cliche...there will be no Poison, Warrant, Nelson, Extreme or Winger at the wedding, although I ashamed to say I do have some of those albums :D

Aerosmith might be the obvious choice, but even their love songs are a bit over played and mainstream.

A few songs we like, but the lyrics screw things up:

"Vermilion: Part 2" by Slipknot - a beautiful acoustic song from what is otherwise an extremely heavy band, but the lyrics seem to suggest a tormented stalker scenario.

"So Far Away" by Staind - most Staind songs are about Aaron Lewis' struggles with addiction and depression, and subsequent recover. This song in particular, while a bit more positive, still isn't a "love" song per say.

So given our musical tastes from the band list above, and the need for a slow song we can dance to, any suggestions? A lot of bands sometimes do obscure covers, radio station acoustic sessions or other songs that, while not officially released on an album, might answer the mail for what we need. We are getting a bit burned out on scanning through iTunes listings and message boards for the right mix of song tempo and lyrics, but from a band that reflects our musical tastes.

However, once the old folks call it a night, and our friends are nice and wasted, we plan on getting the mosh pit started.

Consider GnR 'Don't Cry' and 'Sweet Child of Mine.' Both are on the b-list as alternatives or possibilities.

Iron Maiden "2 Minutes to Midnight" is a bit too fast for a first song...problem with most Iron Maiden songs, as they origins were in the punk movement, the tempo of their songs is always a few seconds too fast.

Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
LOL...Scorpiioooooooons. We briefly considered 'Winds of Change."

Seether feat. Amy Lee - Broken

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. I get the chills every time I hear it.

We recently discovered Seether, and my fiancee does like his voice...isn't Amy Lee the chick from Evanescence? Have to take a listen and check out the lyrics.

Yup, Amy Lee is the chick from Evanescense, and I think she has a beautiful voice. Go check out the song, I bet you would like it. I can say that if I ever married a metal head it's what I would play.

I wanted "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple as our wedding march, but HomeAppraisersWife would not go for it.

oh man i didn't see queen on your list...

then consider queen's "you take my breathe away", "love of my life", "good old-fashioned lover boy", or even "Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)"... is there an all-english version?

Cobra Starship - Snakes on a Plane

But seriously. Look into Nightwish. It may not be your normal music, but it's a fairly easy stretch to fit (especially if you like Lacuna Coil), and there's NO shortage of good songs for that type of thing. Astral Romance comes to mind (there are several versions on several albums, I like the one on Over the Hills and Far Away the best) - but it may get a bit too fast - but I've seen it used as a dance song to a good degree of success.

More appropriate as a mother/groom dance song.

I'll be seeing Queensryche later this month @ HOB in Downtown Disney!
I'll probably see you there...is Mindcrime 2 any good? Haven't picked it up yet, and their recent offerings haven't been solid since DeGarmo left the band...also, I saw the Ryche several years ago...Geoff Tate goes through more outfit changes in a set then Cher.

"Mama I'm coming home" - Ozzy
Nah, we listened through all the 90s era Ozzy ballads, and none of them worked for us.

Yeah, checked out all those songs...problem is that when Freddie Mercury goes the love song route, the songs lose that signature Queen hard rock vibe...although we do plan on using the Brian May wedding march from the "Flash Gordon" soundtrack...Flash...boom...ah ah...savior of the universe. :D

I dig the whole European gothic metal sound...Lacuna Coil, the Gathering, Nightwish, etc. While I like that genre, they are a bit too "metal opera" for the little lady.

So far, the Seether song is a huge contender...just played it for the fiancee, and she dug it...but also pointed out it has been a top 40 song with a lot of airplay for some time.

The lyrics are a bit depressing, but how about "Down in A Hole" by Alice in Chains?

Actually, try "The Gift" by Seether. I haven't heard it on the radio a whole lot, but it's another of my favorite songs.

seems like you could find something good from type o negative...
Unfortunately, the little lady thinks Peter Steele's voice will scare our guests away...their tunes are a bit too gothic and "haunted mansion" for their own good. Although I already put in a vote for "Love You 2 Death"

Yeah once again lyrics screw things up..."Heaven Beside You," same problem.

How about Tourniquet - When the Love is Right? It's the perfect song for a wedding and Tourniquet is as metal as they come. Nothing beats old-school 80s thrash metal... even when they sing a sappy acoustic love song. :)

The bottom line is metal heads do NOT dance

Get a piano player and just sit back and let the person play.

Surely you can find something from Dream Theater, but if not, Opeth instantly comes to my mind. I would recommend "Ending Credits" from their Damnation album. No lyrics and very mellow with some nice guitar.
