I love Metal Gear games to death but this one just doesn't have me as hooked. The game play is awesome but two main things pull me put of it, first is how every mission is cut up, it doesn't flow, every mission is broken up, it kills the flow for me immensely. Having to choose each mission every time just really pulls me out of the game.

Also Revolver Ocelot voice just sounds horrible. Obviously with how much he talks, being used to one voice for all this time and now it's a completely different one, kills it for me also. Keifer Sutherland isn't much of an issue since you don't hear his voice a huge amount compared to Ocelot.

I love picking and choosing your missions. As far as Ocelot goes this is before he became obsessed with Liquid Snake. His more grim voice in the future probably fits that version of him where as here, he is simply a triple agent.

Keifer Sutherland really fits for big boss I think. He doesn't talk much because I bet he is expensive.

I have to say, the pacing is quite different. Because now we have so much choice in the game, it makes the game that much longer to complete (if you want to get the most experience out of it).

If anything, the older games were just platform games but in a 3D world... somewhat.. You go from point A to point B and then you progress. This game... is somewhat like Far Cry or GTA series where you can pick and choose your missions, but gives you even more freedom. In GTA, it seems that you would just go down the list and play through it. MGS, with the Fulton and motherbase (Somewhat reminds me of Assassin's creed) it makes the game HUGE. Incredibly huge. In fact, I'm just doing 1 mission a day, perhaps, maybe even 2 side missions a day. At the end of countless replays, I'm exhausted of playing the level. Though it's quite fun, it does get somewhat tedious... It's like playing Ground Zeros 20 times over again..

Like the real world, you create your own experience in MGS. If you're obsessive about wanting to use stealth and not alerting the enemies rather than engaging in a shootout then yeah you'll be constantly restarting from the checkpoint when detected. But my point is, that tediousness stems from wanting to play the game and completing a mission a certain way on your own part.

And now that I just got D-Dog, I have to run on foot to my missions! Anyone have any tips on traveling without D-Horse? Also, can you save within a mission? I just hate playing the mission from square 1 again if I died... All those people I extracted (All the A+'s!!!!) all gone... All because I fell off a roof..

Also, can you make D-Dog distract people?

You get checkpoints. As for traveling I just ran everywhere and took out outposts as I went.

Later on when your bond with DD is higher you can have him bark and guards go investigate. You also get sneaking suits for him that let you command him to attack. One kills one stuns.

You can request helicopter pickup and dropoff (take out enemy radar to increase pickup areas) or you could request supply swap of DD with DH during the mission. If you upgrade your fulton so that you can fulton out vehicles and shipping crates, you can also choose to start your missions with DD and a vehicle.

MGS is pretty good with checkpoints, I haven't had too many instances where I bemoaned the fact I had to start over again.

yeah, all my missions essentially. I'll be at the very end,a BOOM, fell off a ledge. Or the stupid gun ship is tearing into me at the very end. And guess what? Start from the beginning :(

Well maybe I should say these are mostly side missions. I'm at the part where they're just starting to talk about Africa.

Yeah, this one didn't do much for me either, I beat the game all the way through since I spent the money, but nothing was ever hard even mission 50.

Motherbase was so boring too. Buddies can make missions overly easy also.

It wasn't a horrible game, just wasn't the 10/10 IGN smoked crack, did a line, pounded a 1/5th of tequila and then scored it. ;)

different strokes for different folks... People who liked how paced gta and far cry were would welcome this game... I've logged close to 40 hours in this game and it says 12% progress... They just mentioned Africa... But yet I still don't have the cargo fulton yet...

Yeah I thought the game is incredible. It also isn't the typical MGS story and is a little more human than past games in the series. Kind of like that but I can see where the lack of a movie like progression of the storyline isn't desirable for some players. You decide when to progress the story and how the missions play out and it can take an hour or more to get to any type of scene that furthers the story.

Anyone heard about plans for any story DLC in the future? Was gonna uninstall but would leave it if there may be some good DLC. Probably not seeing as Konami dropped all AAA development. Still curious.

They said there is no story DLC coming out. Metal Gear Online is the only thing to look forward too.

You get access to one when you rank up with her. She will also shoot your grenades and push them toward enemies.

Little bit of Randomness:

1. Why do all of your soldiers on Mother Base sound American when the vast majority of them are ex-Soviets?

2. C4 times out or something and its hard to plan base strategy that way. I planted 2 C4 on two different power generators with the plan on popping them both when I was ready to escape, yet by the time I got to it the C-4 timed out or something. To make sure it wasn't range, I actually went back to where I originally planted them. No dice. And yes, I know how to use C4 it's not operator error.

3. Are you telling me that Motherbase has access to a ridiculous amount of military hardware and the ability to build extremely large offshore structures in hours when it would take years of planning and construction in RL, yet I gotta pick herbs to make medication from? Couldn't Big Boss simply stage a simple robbery at a pharmaceutical supplier somewhere? It seems to me it would be a whole lot more efficient that way.

Kojima is like Vincent van Gogh.....MGS 1-4 were before he cut off his ear...MGS5 happened after.

C4 doesn't time out. It will be removed if you go through a cutscene of some kind though.

I've blown up C4 in two different outposts at once.

okay. I'm bored of MGS5. it's the same thing over and over and over and over again. I think repetition got to me... I'm at 50 Hours and only on mission 16 (22%). It's the same game 100x over. I think that's why Zerocool84 didn't like it. It's the same experience 100 times. It's pretty boring now... Maybe because it's takes so damn long to level up, and everything is a waiting game: Waiting for motherbase to finish construction: then you hit the same outpost but now it's full of enemies again. God that's annoying. Then you gotta find a way to just run through it because you get no sense of accomplishment after you defeat it. It'll just spawn back up. I mean, at least in far cry you get to use those outposts as a base-- a mini motherbase or what have you..

Essentially this game is: Capture Outpost. Shoot guys. Gather Materials. Repeat. (You'll have a buddy to help you out in the form of Quiet or D-Dog or D-Horse, or that mini metal gear walker thing)

then all of a sudden, all your side ops re-appear again. It's the same damn thing as if you just roamed around. and each prisoner rescue doesn't give you some sort of a rewarding experience... It RARELY makes a difference in your motherbase... in fact, the only time I believe is the legendary gunsmith, emmerich (which in itself becomes a regular mission) and the translator in the beginning. Everything else feels like it's just there to make the game waste more time... like nothing feels like there's a point.

Anyways, that's all... kind of frustrating now I've dumped so many hours without any type of payoff or hope in sight...

Picking quiet as your buddy is like going in with an army, I had a total difference experience playing through the oil field mission without her versus with her.

I just slammed into the burnout wall you described, excepted it hit me earlier in the game. I got to mission 10. The problem with MGSV is similar to that of Destiny in that even though there is depth and complexity, you will ultimately spend 90% of your time grinding the same types of missions over and over. I'd just hit the story missions, but unlocking or completing some missions means upgrading your base, therefore requiring more grind.

Even worse, I inadvertently read about the ending and about lost my sh*t. I won't spoil it for those who aren't aware yet, but let's just say it can affect how you feel about your character.

I'm sure I'll jump in now and then to blow sh*t up, but my will to actually beat the game is virtually non-existent now. Ironically, I had no problem getting all the way through MGS4, and that was practically a movie.

Yeah me too, that's because it was so heavily story based, that every level (granted with minimal game play hehehe) accomplishes something. There's a sense of accomplish to read the next chapter. This game, is just the same thing over and over again. The only thing they're missing are you being able to fly planes. Or have a grappling hook to go to places you can't go. Far Cry accomplishes this with bigger reward. If MGS5 was a 10, than Far Cry 4 is a 10+
