I picked this up for ps4 hopefully I will have some time to play it.

It's one of the best games I have played this year for sure. Even when I am barely 6% done according to the game.

yes, i'd say best game, and best looking. Has a far cry 3-4 feel to it... (building weapons, taking over outposts, etc.)

Played the intro last night and a bit of chapter one. Graphics are great im going to move my ps4 to the living room so I can play it there. I really enjoyed the music as well as the crazy story that unfolds.

Wasn't too sure what to do in chapter one so I went to the first outpost and just took out everyone with mortars. I'm going to maybe redo it and go stealth mode.

Despite what people say about the story it did a good job of pulling me in.

Picked the game up on Xbox One a couple days ago. Only past the first couple of main missions and a couple of side-ops but I can say two things right away:

1.) Wow it's a beautiful game. Lighting is absolutely superb, models are fantastic. Detail is everywhere.
2.) LOVE the gameplay so far. No more linear levels, you're given a huge area to explore and you attack the objectives however you see fit. I love it.

I'll spend 15-20 minutes scouting a base and figuring out a strategy for getting in and getting out (which is usually the same path I get in so far). I've seen some posts around the net where people are hating the open-world nature but it's exactly what this type of game needs. Controls are spot-on as well and generally do what I want them to.

Story has been easy to follow thus far as well, but I've also listened and paid attention to the recordings that help flesh out the story. I also played Ground Zeroes for the first time right before buying Phantom Pain so I was already up-to-speed on what was happening.

Only thing I think is missing so far is single-player story co-op, wow that would be amazing.

Wow Campaign Co-Op would've been insanely amazing. Damn. Really wished they had that... especially with the Far Cry 3/4 feel to it, (which had somewhat of a single player co-op to take out outposts) I feel like MGS5 could've really hit the nail on the head with it... I heard Peace Walker had it, and it was insane.

I agree I wish we had single player co op. I'm glad I got this game. I haven't played Mgs in forever so I'm still getting used to it. The open world technique works well because you have so many ways to infiltrate.

Little details are everywhere. If you stay out in the field too long you get dirty, wounds are persistent(blood etc stays), and you get flys buzzing around you. You have to go back to mother base and take a shower to clean up. You can reload a weapon with a full magazine to top off. Meaning if you have a 30 round magazine and load it you have 29 in the magazine and 1 in the chamber, you can reload again and have 30+1. Most games don't let you do that. I like how you don't have to extract after every mission, you can stay in the field and complete more side-ops. I usually do a few at once. I also love how you can call in supply drops of new weapons and uniforms at will. If you just unlocked and researched a new sniper rifle and you want to try it out, call in a supply drop. If you want to recruit a bunch of guys and need the tranquilizer gun, call it in. So many ways to do things.

Also camo choice does matter. Enemies can spot you from a very long distance away if you wear the wrong colors. Also if you go in at night a lot the enemies start bringing night vision to counter you, similarly if you get a lot of headshots they will start wearing heavy plated helmets that need high caliber sniper rounds to penetrate.

That's what I'm liking most so far. Find a good vantage point, tag as many enemies as you can find, then figure out the best way to get in.

Was playing a mission last night and I got a laugh out of myself. While you're scouting, anti-air/gun placements are marked with a square and vehicles are marked with a circle. Well, I didn't really know this yet and the base I was going into had only one vehicle, so only one circle. I mistook that for being my objective I was going after.

When I finally got to the jeep where I thought I was supposed to go, I got really confused. I hopped into the jeep and was sitting there with it running. I was honestly just staring at the TV trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. I knew what the mission objective was but it didn't relate to this at all. All of a sudden, an enemy walked by the passenger door and did not even see me, just kept on walking. I pretty much froze and wasn't sure WTF to do.

My next thought was maybe they don't realize I'm an enemy if I'm in a vehicle? So I started driving and, nope, they know you're an enemy. I quickly flipped the jeep on an embankment and got killed trying to run away. I was fine with that, as I completely fucked it up and wanted to start over. Was still confused on my second play but finally figured it out.

Apparently they do this with a lot of stuff. Use stun gas grenades (or whatever they're called) a lot, they'll start wearing gas masks.

One nice touch is later on you can assign the missions to a recruit and play as them. Their movements are different. One guy I used would throw an enemy instead of choke them out when you interrogate by grabbing them. I also really like sneaking up on an enemy and holding them up to interrogate them.

I do have a hard time deciding if I should go lethal or non-lethal. I've started tagging enemies and checking if they have any special skills or interrogating someone to find the specialists and pretty much kill everyone else.

I've yet to kill anyone (except for the one person who I had to kill to complete a mission). I suspect that will change as I continue onward onto harder missions. I've already worn out my suppressor and have to figure out how to get another one, been using it so much.

Some bases have to many blind spots you can't see or tag guards in that it's inevitable you'll be spotted. I'm sure I could be more patient though if I really wanted to.

I'm on the first mission and I decided to go to the first base that has the coms antenna. Im pretty sure I put everyone to sleep or knocked them out but I can't tell if I captured the base. They keep waking up lol. I hid in a dumpster and passed the time. I did collect the first piece of Intel there. Not sure if I should get to where that miller guy is held up or continue to try and mess around that first base.

You can't capture a base or an outpost unless you kill or fulton everyone out (you learn about fulton after you complete this first mission you're talking about. With that said, the intel you got was your only objective there, to pin-point where Miller is at the next base up the road. You don't have to secure/capture the base. Once you got the intel, move on to the next objective, extracting Miller.

Beat that mission and did the one side op to extract a guy for Russian interpretation. Now it made me go shower but I can't start any other missions. Says I have to accept them from aerial command view so I guess I need to be in the chopper.

Yes you can't change the zone of operations from mother base or when you are deployed. You have to go on the chopper and wait for snake to close the side door. Then you'll be able to.

I'm really enjoying it just doing the side missions and going through the collectable items too. I didn't hear anything about the Fulton after I finished the first mission. I guess its one of the upgrades I have to unlock. I also rescued a puppy and now every time I go to base he's there barking like crazy.

If this had online co-op for the side missions, it would be a blast. They should have made the enemies tougher and the missions a bit harder if playing with someone. Regardless it has enough content to keep one person busy.

do a supply drop. You'll refill your fulton's and get a new silencer. One detail that they missed is when snake walks through bushes (a la MGS3). That looked lame. Or when the helicopter doesn't really push the bushes and leaves away like the ending of MGS4 (Wow that slowed down to l ike 15 fps)

Haha, literally just read how to do this about 10 minutes ago, then saw your post. At one point yesterday, I noticed my silencer was at full strength again and I had no idea how it happened. New silencer is defaulted in with an ammo drop, I don't why they even bothered if it's going to happen without me having to even consider it.

Ugh I hate fighting the skulls so much. It's like they are a lean against the 4th wall punishing you for going stealth and bringing tranquilizer guns to the fight.

I've been stuck doing side ops missions. Everytime I get a new one I go and do it. I still have yet to do the 5th story mission. It's annoying how some areas don't have better drop zones for your helicopter.

I had to go all the way around the map to get to this location from what looked like two miles in front of me. Also, doesn't seem you can climb ledges that look climbable.
