Bigotry and ignorance are found even in high places. Learn to question authority. Be careful of fundamentalist thinking, where because some respected authority or document says something, you, yourself, are trapped by the same ignorance of those who propounded the ideas in the first place. Think for yourself. The rain forest if full of gay animals and especially, our closest relative the Bonobo chimp.

No need for name calling!!
Even the Pope is entitled to his opinion!!

Even if I blatantly disagree.....he is still entitled!
You would not believe how many Catholics also disagree with the Pope!!

This.

The papacy is so quaint. He's like the Queen, but with fancier outfits.

I had tremendous respect for JP II, and was very upset when he passed. Although I'm sure that he had similar views to evil Emperor pope (they were very close friends), his comments, to me, never came off as blunt and vitriolic.

Ratzinger is much more conservative than JP II, and I feel like it may contribute to reversing the good PR JP II built up over the years.

Ultimately, if Benedict wants to protect humanity from the queers, he should round up his own closest flock and do a stiffy check after parading through some young tender choir-boys. Way to go after people who don't bother you and yours, all the while ignoring the predatory butt-spelunkers in your own halls. I guess it's not gay if the 12 year old boy you're porking back at the rectory looks like a 12 year old girl from behind.

That's awfully white of the pope to use Christmas to spread his message of intolerance. It's certainly what Jesus would do too.

Only took the church a few hundred years to embrace heliocentrism. Perhaps in a few hundred more they'll finally accept homosexuals.

He is the representative for all of christianity, by saying this he is saying all devout christians hate gays.

-Edit- Oh and I now have now lost the last bit of respect I had for christianity as a religion.

The Pope also does not represent Protestants.

edit: I'm shocked I had to clarify the meaning behind my comment.

Yes, the pope should instead preach moral relativism, since that's how he feels. It's always ironic that those who claim the pope is an ignorant bigot never even consider his statements before labeling him as such, thereby demonstrating that they are no better than they think he is.
