i could use a simple, fun, blow shit up type of game but still doesn't sound like this one is worth it.

There are different cut scenes, but basically, you hit Y as soon as you are close to the turret of the tank, and your character will proceed to jump on top and go to the opening hatch and hit a button to try and open it. A guy will come out and try and push you off or you steal a nade and you have to hit the corresponding button on screen or if it wants you to, tap the button quickly, and then you'll proceed to overtake him and steal the tank.
It does that for all the tanks you jack and helicopters. I don't know if it works on cars or not. I haven't tried that.

Coming from someone who loved the first Mercs, I would give Mercs 2 a tentative buy if you're a Mercs 1 fan.
Setting aside generational differences (IE graphics, online play, larger environments), Mercs 2 is not quite as good as Mercs 1. Part of that is the location they chose, Korea was just a more interesting locale.
The factions and their relationships made more sense than they do in Mercs 2. Now, you've got to remember which factions like and dislike each other. In Mercs 1, you could just guess that that AN  SK and CN  NK.
The VIP engine in Mercs 1 was a ton better. The Deck of 52 concept was straightforward, I have no idea why they dropped it for #2. Plus, in #1 all the VIPs were NK so it was cool with all the factions to take them. Now, the VIPs are in each different faction, so you have to be careful which ones you capture and in which order so that you don't ruin your rep.
There are some things that are better. The minigame for jacking tanks is pretty cool and the grapple for helicopters is something that was sorely needed.
Put another way, there have been many worse action titles released this year. Mercs is a solid way to spend your time.

So, meh reviews for the PC + no demo =
Torrent is ~7.5GB.. how can the game be that big with such crappy textures? It doesn't even seem worth the download.
