We age the same. A man who takes care of himself, exercises regularly, and eats healthy is going to look good going into his later years. Then suddenly, he goes into, "Look, I'm an old man!" mode. A women who takes care of herself, exercises regularly, and eats health is going to look stunning even into her later years where she, too, will suddenly turn into old lady mode, but at least she'll be a lot healthier in her later years.

It's all about three things: Maintaining muscle tone, diet, and flexibility, and as we get older, it becomes more and more important to maintain these things. Think about it, next time you see an older individual, notice the lack of muscle tone and stiffness compared to a younger individual. People who have worked hard to maintain these throughout their lives are those we consider to have "aged well".

Anyone who takes care of themselves ages better. This isn't rocket surgery.

I know a 26 yr old who passes for someone in their late 30s - she is a heavy drinker.

Well, men don't have to go through menopause, which helps. I think women by and large do better (on average), but it's very much an individual thing. People who take care of themselves age better, regardless of gender. Genetics are important, of course.

Depends on a lot of things. Genetics, diet, skin color and sun exposure are just a few things that affect it.

This is basically it. However, I wonder at that moment when a person suddenly becomes "old." Is that necessary? I'm not too sure about that. Yes, it happens, happens to people who a year before seemed perfectly vital, energetic, strong, etc. But everybody? I don't think so. Of course, if you reach age 111, you are apt to have a lot of the characteristics of a geezer. 🙂

I've heard a lot of guys say things like, "I'm getting too old for this." I refuse to do that. I work really hard at staying young. It's diet, exercise, attitude, interests, activities. Regarding yourself as old is a copout. You are only letting yourself down if you think that way.
