People mocked him for putting his own money into Passion of the Christ too, saying it would be a bomb and he was throwing his $20 million away.

Most successful snuff film ever. He made at least $200 million making the movie he wanted to, his way.

I think it's fair to say that there are more people interested in the death of Jesus Christ than the downfall of the Mayan kingdom.

Yeh that other movie he directed...I think it's called Braveheart. That was a flop too!

well first off its Mel Gibson and he's lost all credibility in my eyes.. he was ok in braveheart...
and his passion of the Christ I never saw personally but watched small snip'its.. and could careless
about it.. and now this movie?? I mean i don't even need to see the movie to know that it is not
going to be historically correct in any way shape or form... i just think he need to retire.. lolol... and call it quits

and then atop of that.. his loss of credibility with his drunken tirade about jews... i just think he's gonna
flop horribly with this..

Sure, and Gibson probably isn't expecting to make another $200 million, but that wasn't why he made the first film either.

He's making the films he wants to, out of his own beliefs. It's his money, so good for him.

I didn't say otherwise. My point is that this one probably won't make very much money. If he wants to spend his money making movies that he wants to, but he'll lose money on them, I say go for it.

If I won the powerball, aside from other fun things I'd probably buy the rights to X-Com and Jagged Alliance, to remake them with the original gameplay but modern graphics.

Since almost nobody buys turn-based strategy games I'd be throwing away the money, but it would make me happy so I'd do it anyway.

Life is not just about "2 chicks at once" :)

So what he said something against jews. He's entitled to his opinion. Though some of the stuff he said wasn't exactly untrue either.
People put his Jesus movie down in every way they could. Some talked about unnecessary violence but then I didn't hear anyone complaining about Braveheart when it came out. Or what about Gladiator or any other gruesome movie.

I think the movie looks great and I'll certainly see it. As for the idiot that was whining above about it not being historically accurate, who gives a crap? It's a film.

I'll be first in line to purchase them.
