This MekTek program is just awful - GUI is horrid looking. It keeps telling me I have no net connection and exiting. I'm assuming this is because it's trying to resolve its own site which is down?

I am guessing its because the server I am running it on does not have DHT or Peer Exchange enabled.

Since it can't get to their site its completely stopping me from getting the torrent, going to have to load it up on my pc to DL it I suppose.

Ever wonder what would happen if Microsoft had second thoughts right after the release and pulled the plug? I can just imagine some higher-up saying, "Why is this game of ours now available for free? How the hell did this happen? I don't care if some idiot in our organization game them the green light. Yes! I want you to do something about it! Shut them down!"

It will be ironic and kind of sad if the free release has some sort of DRM that requires being able to connect to the MekTek servers in order to play it, even in single player.

They've free-released SOURCE CODE to several titles in the past too. This really isn't precedent for them.

I ended up using a separate torrent program to grab the file, which worked great. Unfortunately I had nothing but problems with their program, gave up and uninstalled it.

If at some point this company pulls it head out of its arse and releases a standard installer I may take another look.

I don't see why microsoft should care. Nobody is going to purchase this game brand new and they certainly aren't going to devote their own time and $ to trying to revive an ancient program.

If anything, it's going to just add to the hype of the upcoming recharge of the series.

Ha. It never even occured to me as I assumed if they "required" you to use a third party DL app/installer that their propriatary file format wouldn't be a renamed zip. Well, it is. Unzipped it, and it works. Nomination for best first post ever.

Well since there site is down the app will say you dont have an internet connection , and it seems you cant install until you connect to there servers. I think this is a one time thing.

Mektek is still down. I wonder what's going on. This is a horrible way to launch something. It's probably going to cost the community a couple hundred would-be players. So much for a Mechwarrior revival.

Being that this company was complaining about being broke I'm not surprised they have bandwidth issues. Over time people searching for free games should eventually bring players I'm sure, as long as the multiplayer is any fun.
