Meeting Craigslist buyers at local PD

I'm selling my very gently used Xbox One. My ad specifically stated "CASH ONLY, NO TRADES, ***Will Meet at Local Police Station***, NO EXCEPTIONS"

I listed the ad last night and woke up this morning to a ton of interest. So far I've gone through 3 buyers who disappeared as soon as I insisted on meeting at the local PD.

I had rapid communication and price/time agreement all 3 times. As soon as I said "where's your nearest PD - I'll meet you there," they vanished.

Interesting.

Anyone tried this themselves?

I'm tempted to just take Amazon's trade-in value and be done with it.

I would like to buy it off you at more than the price you are asking. Could you ship it to me in Kenya? I am here doing mission work by finding the next kid for Angelina and Brad to adopt. Nothing would make the kids happier than to be able to play NBA 2k.

Only if you'll have your own courier pick up from me at my house.

Ive always met in public for craigslist deals. Usually at Wal-mart by the entrance doors. Never had issues with those who are serious meeting there.

I would do the local PD but its just a sheriffs office and the location outside their office is actually pretty dark and "sketchy" IMO

I'm too lazy to meet someone somewhere, so I just tell them to come to my house. Then again, I live out in the country and am always packing, so I'm not too worried about it.

Gas station parking lot.

Well lit, usually busy, plenty of parking. I also might not try to conceal as much as usual when I meet people.

I meet people all the time on craigslist and have never had an issue. If Im selling something sometimes they come to my house or a gas station close by.

I could name a few posters here who are so distrustful of the vast majority of the police (due to the actions of a few) that they would be afraid to meet the OP in front of a police station. :p

Yeah, I hate police.

Also, I have seemingly interested buyers vanish all the time. Maybe they found a better price elsewhere or they were just fishing. Sending an email is easy to do whether they're genuinely interested or not.

The way that's worded just sounds like a sting operation or some other type of scam. It sounds like you're planning to arrest them for buying stolen goods.

And I fail to see how meeting near a police station is safer than anywhere else. In NYC, there are cops posted in every public area.

I've only ever met people at my house or their house for Craig's List.

Of course, I'm only ever dealing with "strange" things, like furniture, so I guess thuggery is never a concern in my dealings?

I've met in a Target parking lot a few times due to splitting the distance -- the items just happened to be more expensive. Sold a few smaller things out of my old apartment (couple old TVs, monitor, cheapo guitar). Made my only CL purchase at the person's house.

I'm probably too trusting of people.

you should pull your head out of the yours ass and realize everyone situation != your situation

that being said I haven't sold anything pricey enough on CL to worry about this, tho if the communications screw weirdo I have them meet me down the street at the Meijer parking lot

I did this and the cops shot and killed me and took my stuff and sold it for drugs then they used those drugs in a sting operation and then they killed all the drug dealers and their babies and then they killed each other. Twist ending - I was dead the whole time.

This is actually the first time I've set up a meet at a local PD. I've done quite a few transactions in grocery store parking lots and such, but they were never for items in super high demand. Usually specialty items like music equipment and other hobby stuff.

Why are you selling the x1?

Just prefer the PS4. Nothing wrong with the x1, just that the PS4 does what I want a little better.
