19W? They went crazy?
Apple with the half of consumption manages to pull better numbers!

They aren't trying to compete with Apple, they're worried about competing with Qualcomm. When I saw the 4000 GB6 first reported for Mediatek I thought that's really bad for Qualcomm, because why should OEMs buy Qualcomm SoCs if Mediatek is no longer the "cheaper but slower" alternative but just "cheaper"? But it appears that 4000 number wasn't real, or at least wasn't real world.

I see it well.

It's 10W for 9200
And 19 W for 10K.

I see the strategy: the 10W going for phones at max, but 19W going to tablets.

Is interesting how MTK might pull in it... it made me remember to AMD Carrizo.

And there is it:

1758577260230.pngDamn ARM... the improvements aren't shown quite as expecting.

ARM designs only shows that is on par with Apple A18 Pro and near A19.

GPU wise, at last there is a saving grace. The improvements are really good, like A19 Pro. If there are way to put Windows on MTK, it could be interesting to see how the GPU can develop. Maybe it's time like Apple: giving some PC ports to Android to see how this develops.

Remember when people thought all ARMs vendors power consumption would go up. Well ARMs did but Apples went down because of the new e-cores.

Wow the Premiums suck. What on Earth is this:
1758580230729.png
Borked physdes? Same L2 capacity, but the integer pipeline of the Premium should be very similar to the Ultra. And it's not like X4 was implemented by a different company, it's literally last years' MTK design.

New e cores are really strong, maybe Intel Tiger Lake level, but GPU wise, I need to say, but ARM takes the cake, still both are on the ballpark of the nVIDIA GTX 1050 Notebook, which is pretty interesting to see.

Had been thinking of replacing my 2021 phone, the flashlight or photo LEDs do not work anymore. Battery life IS shorter but not as much as everyone else in my household with newer phones. I don't let mine shut off from lack of power. I am lazy on leaving on charger overnight.

Anyway, currently looking at a phone with the MT dimensity 7400? price is fine at 450. Because I can also switch to employer plan with unlimited data for 35$ a month, runs off VW towers.
Here is the rub, the REAL flagship usually launches towards November, specifically I missed a few specials due to BF.

In the EU, its the Pro 60. Here at this time it is mid tier Moto Edge. Hoping they will release an Edge Plus now that this new chip is announced.

Even the mid tier Edge with the D7400 with 5000mah battery, would suit me fine. Just want to be able to get an unlocked so I can test employers service. But other than the flashlight leds, I don't have a issue with current phone.

Opinions? Won't go Apple or Samsung, Moto is really the only option due to the "gestures" feature. Plus they have a minimal UI, unlike the SS one. My work tablet has that, and even though it's locked through employer, I don't even get a clock or alarm app with it. Infuriates me, I can only download what is approved.

Go with the Vivo X300.

D7xx is budget soc, with that budget why don't you look for last year premium models? Like Edge 50 pro?

Edge 50 was IIRC EU market.
Have not looked up Edge 60 specs due to carrier compatibility. It is not even an option in the .en store.

The last 4 or 5 years the Edge+ usually launched late Oct or early Nov. Usually.

All these design houses are basically piggy-backing on TSMC's progress. It's been that way like forever from what I can tell. No wonder TSMC has become a national security issue.

welcome to tech innovation for the last 65 years.

The death of moore's law has been the death of tech innovation and that lack of diversity in investment has created the AI bubble we have today. Like what else is VC going to put their cash into today ? juice aero mk.2 ?

Why Mediatek insisting using 1+3+4 instead of 2+0+6 cluster design?

Have you wonder why Mediatek keep using 1+3+4 cluster design for 3 generations? Even though 1+3+4 limiting the core frequency thus lower ST performance as calculated below:

D9500 1+3+4.jpg

It is simple calculation but yet, it helps us simulating the core frequency of C1 Ultra if we remove 3 x C1 Premium cores. With 4.65GHz, C1 Ultra could hit 4000+ in GB6. Thus my question is why does Mediatek insisting using such design even though ARM itself is recommending 2+0+6 in Lumex CSS?

The answer: Mediatek wants to kill 2 birds with one stone. D9500 will be used as flagship smartphone SoC and entry mobile PC SoC. With almost sound like 4+4, D9500 will easily fit as mobile PC SoC to compete with sub-$800 tablet/notebook PC market. Let's compare specs of D9500 and SP12 with fanless X Plus 8-core to see how much improvements we are getting:

Surface Pro 12D9500 5GImprovement +%X Gen2
CPUQualcomm X Plus 8-coreC1 1+3+4 8 core
NodeN4PN3P
Max Clock3.4GHz4.21GHz
GB6 ST22503700++ 65%
GB6 MT950011000++ 16%
Memory128-bit LPDDR5x-844864-bit LPDDR5x-10667
BW136 GB/s85.6 GB/s
GPU1.7 TF4.5 TF+ 165%
NPU45 TOPS100 TOPS ?+ 122%

Even with half of memory bus, D9500 managed to shown improvement up to 2.7X. Plus, integration of 5G modem which could come as optional in the future...

And this is just the first wave of ARMies which will keep coming in the future. Next year, we will be getting D9600 with C2+G2 which is fabbed by TSMC's N2, I bet Mediatek will maintain 1+3+4 cluster design. And Qualcomm will release X Gen 2 with 12-core to counter that. In the future, PC market will become ultra-competitive which is good thing for consumers...
