Not sure how MWO handles this though as I haven't played it yet.

mouse and keyboard work just fine in most cases.

From my experence, a throtle might be good for speed control when wanting to creep around corners / over hills, but that is about it.

what is better is having extra buttons for individual weapon group firing.

My cheap keyboard and Logitech G5 are treating me well in the game. The mouse sensitivity adjustment comes in really handy when I want to zoom in for the long range Gauss shot.

I'm still having trouble aiming at distance, I think that is partially my mouse sensitivity and partially my sucky aim. Liking it so far though.

Anyone have good mechs they are willing to share the setup for? Right now I am using an awesome 3PPCs and two medium lasers with an XL 215(?) engine. good sniping mech, NOT a brawler tho 😛

...and largely the painfully slow projectile speed.

Hunchback with as many SPLs as you can fit (9?) is pretty fun. I tried using MPLs on the arms, but you give up too much heat dissipation to do that. Better to use the leftover weight on engine speed. Took an Atlas down w/ a couple bursts to the rear center torso (3 or 4 I think).

I hate projectile speed :'(

I use PPCs for the most part, sniping weapons, they are big heat makers though, LOTS of heat spreaders on my mech, actually got an XL engine less powerful than the stock to get MORE heat spreaders.

Ive been running around with my Catapault K2. Its been quite fun with an XL260, 2 UAC5s with 175 rounds of ammo, 4 MLasers, 16 heat sinks and a smidge more armor.

I love the single location precision of ACs. Just wish it had jump jets. makes fighting the circling lights easier.

stupid servers being down last night. couldnt play. 🙁

trying this out but only 1 UAC5 for now as I can't afford an XL engine after what i spent lately 😛

I like using the Cata K2, throw an XL300, 2 med lasers, and 2 PPC's (sometimes switch out the PPC's with 2 larger lasers or 2 larger pulse lasers).

Going like 85 kph in a cata catches a lot of people off guard when they try getting to you 😀

I am thinking Cata-K2 XL 195, 4 medium lasers and 2 UAC5s with a TON of ammo and 20-25 heat sinks. And yeah while the XL260 is nice, it's 10 tons the XL 195 is 3 tons, that's 7 tons for heat sinks and ammo and I feel the trade off isn't TOO Severe... the XL260 would be 64.8 kph vs about 45 kph for the 195.

Ah well I will try it out.

UAC5s are decent but personally I'd go with a single Gauss rifle over a pair of UAC5s. Less heat, more damage in a single location, headshot potential, and better precision.

Catapult K2 with max armor (-3 in each leg), 250XL engine, Gauss w/3 tons ammo, 1 ERLL, 3 ML, and 17 HS works nicely.

Sounds like a nice set up, I like a machine gun for chipping away every now and then so I might try to fit one of those on too.

WTF??? How are you guys fitting an XL in the K2? It only has 8 slots available for an engine and XLs require 12.

All XL engines take extra slots, the extra slots go on to the sides of the torso automatically. That is the draw back of the XL, if they blow your side torso you're toast. The XL is great for the catapult hull though because of it's shape, 90% of the shots you take are usually in the center torso for the cata due to its shape.

Does weapon and heatsink location effect heat dissipation? For instance will a PPC on an arm generate less heat than a PPC on the torso, or will it dissipate more quickly in that location?

Yeah it's 6 in the torso and 4 in each side I think, makes you more vulnerable over all, but in the right mech it is great. Loss a LOT of weight.

very good info

With the August 7th date quickly approaching, we wanted to give you guys a quick update on some important points of note. We have noticed some wide-ranging discussion on the forums as to what exactly will be happening on August 7th, and we are pleased to share the official rollout plans. Firstly, it's important to reiterate that the standard retail ALPHA/BETA definitions do not necessarily apply to online Free to Play (F2P) games. MechWarrior Online will always be in development, which means exciting new features and content will roll out frequently. As you know, we have yet to announce hard dates for Open Beta or our official Live date. Our goal has always been to achieve Open Beta status before the end of summer. What will happen on August 7th? Great question! All Founder's Program members will be granted access to all of their Founder's perks and rewards. So basically:•Beta access (granted with any Founder's program)
•Founder's Tag (granted instantly)
•Premium account*
•In-game currency**
•Founder's Mechs for Elite and Legendary Founders
•The Founders Program "Credits" and "In Game Currency / MC" are ready for you to spend at will. Important: You will be refunded the entire amount each time we patch the game during Closed Beta & once again when we commence the Open Beta.
Once all Founder's Members are in the Open Beta, your premium account bonuses will be treated as "live" and any MC used will be permanently spent. Please Note:* The premium account grants you 50% more XP and C-Bills. Even though you will get those benefits while the duration of Closed Beta, the REAL clock will only begin at Open Beta where there will be a final reset of all accounts so everyone starts at the same level. ** In game currency will be reset and re-injected at every reset until Open Beta. This means you can experiment and spend it all with no worries as it will be given back to you on the final reset of Open Beta. How long will the Founder's Program be on sale? Due to recent overwhelming demand, the Founder's Program will continue to be made available beyond August 7th. Cut-off timing for the Founder's Program offer will be announced at a later date. The game is currently in Closed Beta, what does this mean? •Ancillary features are done.
•New features are being added.
•New content is added on a regular basis.
•Access to MechWarrior Online is by invitation only.
•All purchases are tracked and will be credited to a player's account when Open Beta starts. (Example: If you purchase 5,000 MC during Closed Beta, your account will be credited with 5,000 MC once Open Beta begins.)
•Data is reset regularly.
•Balance and tuning are extensive and regular.
•Lots of bugs.
Once we announce we are in Open Beta (Date TBD), what will change? •The game is 95% stable.
•New features are still being added.
•New content is added on a regular basis.
•Final data reset.
•Balance and tuning are still happening regularly in response to scaling up the user base.
As mentioned above, terms like "Release" or "Live" are hard to determine with a Free to Play game like MechWarrior Online, however you may consider the game "Live" when: •The game is stable.
•New features are grouped into more formal releases.
•New content is added on a regular basis.
•Unrestricted public access to the game.
•Ongoing tuning and minor bug fixing.
We hope this clarifies things a little more and gives you a bit more information on the different milestones we are trying to achieve. Until next time, happy gaming!

Good stuff. So we can go buck wild spending our money with no worries as it will be reset multiple times and once more when it goes to open beta. Also nice we get the perks of the premium account the entire time as well.

I am very much looking forward to the next reset. I give up on the Catapult--I maintain, as I always have, that that mech is trash. Ready to play with some Awesome builds.

AWS-8Q
33 heat sinks
2 Medium pulse lasers
3 ER PPCs (extended range)
XL195

That's my current assault class I use.
I have the 3 PPCs in one weapon group and the Pulse lasers in the 2nd set, first set for long range sniping (what my mech is made for) and 2nd set for anything that gets too close.

Still tweaking tho, this isn't perfect.

lol cata is my fav mech thus far. I find it quite versatile 😀

My Atlas eats catapults for breakfast and craps out jenners when it is done...

As for setups:

Hunchback (only the laser variant)
XL 300 engine
9 small lasers (not pulse)
fill rest with heatsinks

You move as fast as the lights and you can almost continuously fire (well at least if you don't fire the 2 lasers in the arms).

Atlas (depends on variant)
2x SRM6
1x Gauss
4x Medium lasers

or (this thing eats mechs and ammo, so carry a lot of ammo i.e. 400-500 rounds of SRMs and 200 rounds of UAC5, but you still need a few heatsinks as those SRMs generate a bunch, but this is the ultimate headshot setup)
2x UAC5
2x (or 3x) SRM6
2x Small lasers

Now, I survive a lot better in the first Atlas setup, but the second one will go toe to toe with any mech that doesn't move 100kph and win every time. I have yet to face another Atlas that beat me 1v1 in that second setup unless it was the 3 or 4th mech I have run across. Obviously since it can not snipe from a distance, it will get beat eventually, which is why I don't typically survive unless the team actually knows what they are doing. The first atlas setup snipes much better and just plain hits hard.
