There are now 35 cases in Clark County alone, and there are more than 50 places in Washington confirmed as a "public exposure location" where a person with measles may have exposed others include retail outlets, schools, churches, and grocery stores.

There were nearly 350 measles cases recorded last year in 26 states and the District of Columbia, the second greatest number since the disease was eliminated in 2000.

Washington state has introduced legislation to remove the personal vaccination exemption, but it's already facing opposition from some parents who feel the bill takes away their freedom.

Sorry but your 'freedom' ends when it brings back a highly infectious disease that was eradicated and can easily kill those who legitimately can't get the vaccine

I agree. “Herd immunity” only works when the entire herd is immunized.

There will always be a few kids who, for “reasons” CAN’T be vaccinated, but personal “feeling” shouldn’t be one of the allowable reasons.

I'm fine with not vaccinating as long as we put those individuals on an island and also ensure that they can't reproduce. God knows we don't want that level of stupidity duplicating.

...But if thats not possible - then simply make it mandatory. Want your kid to go to school? Must be vaccinated to attend. Don't want your kid to go to school then? Okay, arrest the parent and put the kid up to foster care. We can't let this level of stupid continue.

Endangering newborns, kids with cancer/HIV etc just because of your feels is beyond vile.

Just found out my mom is borderline antivaxxer. At least my brother and I had our shots before that nonsense kicked in.

Ah, my hometown making me proud again. :(
Maybe I'll contact my useless DINO representative to make the vacs mandatory with only health reasons being a possible waiver. Live on the wrong side of the sound.

Hell, I had the chicken pox, measles, and scarlet fever as a kid...I survived with only a few...deficits...:p

I never could contract the mumps though. Parents used to have “mumps parties” where, when one kid got the mumps, several other kids would spend the night at their house, trying to catch them...MUCH better to get them as pre-teens than as adults.
Imfinally got the mumps vaccine a couple of years ago...

Nice parents. Mumps can make you sterile.

Doesn't it make sense? If the chance of contracting it at some point in life is / was extremely high, and it was better to get it over with as a kid. Then they were attempting the best outcome.

I never had Chickenpox while in school. There may come a day I regret that. Same logic.

It's time to criminally prosecute anti-vaxxers for endangering their communities. This is getting out of hand.

Measles is creeping around Georgia, too.

Anti-vaxxers are fucking morons endangering their children, and everyone else, because they don't understand basic scientific concepts.

Of course, it's the same for the climate change deniers, but I'll save that for a different thread.

I would just pass a law that makes these parents liable for healthcare costs as a result of their actions. Meaning if you get another kid sick, you pay the bill. Let them put their money where their mouth is

I really hope that the children of these parents end up with polio so that their parents can find out what it's like to watch its effects and not being able to do a damn thing to help their children. I know this is an asshole thing to wish for but they need to find out the hard way what people suffered from before the vaccine.

Nah, that’s being an asshole. As much as I despise the anti-vaxxers and their stupidity, I don’t wish any harm in the kids. It’s not their fault their parents are brwin damaged.

Agreed. I have a similar case here where we have people in my neighborhood that buy big dogs and they do incredibly stupid shit like put them outside all night in the dead of winter...

So what do the dogs do? They fucking yelp and bark all night. I would be fucking pissed too. Dogs are meant not just for protection - but also as a fucking pet.

So whenever my wife jokes about throwing over some rat poison bacon - I always comment that the owners are the real pieces of shit.

I already acknowledged the fact that I am an asshole, what would you expect from a sociopath. These people need to understand the consequences of their choices, the risks of any of these diseases mutating could be fatal to billions including me, sorry been dead once not in any rush to die again.

My neighbor is one of those assholes. The old fart has two setters that he never walks so the dogs are wound up 24/7/365. Unfortunately his side fence is about twenty feet from our bedroom window. When he lets the dogs out at 3 A.M. they bark at every noise they hear. I've gone out and hosed them down to shut the damned things up a few times.

Not vaccinating one's children is irresponsible and stupid as is the rest of the usual "But muh Freedumb!" routine.

The real problem with these anti-vaxxers lies in the fundamental nature of life and evolution. Measles today isn't the measles of yesterday. Today's measles virus are the descendants of the ones that survived vaccination. It has evolved and will continue to do so. The same problem exists to all the other diseases we have vaccines against.
We were so close to wiping out forever diseases that used to kill more people than old age. So close.
