99% of the oceans plastic is missing............
http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2014/06/ninety-nine-percent-oceans-plastic-missing

Alarm is all well and good, sometimes facts can settle things down a bit. Just to be honest i also recycle religiously, reuse, repurpose and upcycle everything i can and also use a water filter for my drinking water.
That story does NOT make it better, the last line is..
Best-case scenario for the fate of the missing plastic? It’s sinking from the weight of organisms sticking to it or in animal feces and getting buried on the ocean floor, Law says. “I don’t think we can conceive of the worst-case scenario, quite frankly. We really don’t know what this plastic is doing.”

Another thread where OP seemingly wants to become an Amish person ('cuz environment) or move to another country but otherwise takes no action beyond posting a thread and indeed contributes to this problem he's posting about just as much as anyone else or maybe more.
You might feel differently if that stuff were dumped on your lawn. (metaphor in case you don't have grass)

Meanwhile we ship manufacturing at breakneck speed to China which generates pollution on a nearly unimaginable scale. We have had engineers QUIT rather than go back to China (it was a requirement for their job).

PS. This is what true unfettered capitalism gets you......

Don't let me start with the huge dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico/just outside the coasts of Texas and Louisiana. And then the huge amount of plastics stuck together and flow along the ocean.

Humans are killing the Earth slowly.

Then Trump's meeting with Katherine White should be concerning to you. I believe that America needs an EPA administrator who is guided by science, respects our environmental laws and values protecting public health ahead of the lobbying agenda of special interests.

Katherine White is a registered lobbyist funded by the energy industry. The conflict of interest here is jarring. It is a no-brainer that her primary interest will be to enforce the law in a way that benefits the energy industry NOT in protecting public health.

And we need a way to combat those manufacturing jobs shipped overseas. I say let companies do it. But if they want to bring those same goods back in the US, they need to be taxed to the point that it would have been worth keeping it here. They aren't shipping jobs overseas to help out other countries; companies are doing it so they can do it cheaper or to avoid labor and production regulations.

It really is not about taking actions about doing a thing here or there about controlling waste. It is about how you think and live your life. Doing your part to live in harmony with the planet is good but the real change in how you think about the whole picture.

We are taught from an early age by our schools and parents to achieve success for ourselves. Never are we asked to think about others or the planet. Never do we question where we are headed as a people.

I mean, where I am they are tearing down tree after tree to build shopping centers and strip malls. There are endless shopping places here and they are constantly building more. When is enough, enough? When will we humans ever be satisfied?

This success we are all attaining (money and material things) comes at a great cost to our planet. There is no free lunch, so to speak. You need to take something to make something. You need to take some material thing to produce another material thing.

There is a price to be paid for this madness we are inflicting on the world.

I learned that in grade school, in the 70's, and retained it for 40 years. It's really not difficult.

What do you mean by this?
That recycling and care for the earth, sustaining natural resources, planting 2 trees for every tree you remove, recycle glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, etc... Try to keep the earth, the earth, and not a toxic waste pit.

If 5 people do this and 100 don't, it really won't matter much in the bigger picture. It does make a difference but this is still not the answer we need to live in peace with the Earth.

We humans have never lived at peace with each other, how can we live at peace with the Earth? I mean, most people probably view the Earth as a dead entity meant to extract resources and material things from.

We are raised in such a manner that material success and personal ambitions are the ultimate goals. Unless that is looked at, I'm sorry to say that no amount of conservation efforts will help all that much.

yes, that was most hilarious.
Its a very serious subject I just don't see much point in discussing it with obnoxious assholes like you. It's been my experience that dipshits like you do more harm to causes than help through sheer, offputting, assholier-than-thou-ness.
