I'm bored.. anyone wanna hear me playing the guitar? :Q Fellow musicians constructive critisizm appreciated.. ;) You all can tell me what you think, but only if you like the kind of music.. :p I've been playing for almost 2 years..

me playing Master of Puppets along with the song

Forgive the buzz.. :p

If you can't tell the diffrence between me and the normal song, you shouldn't be listening anyway. :p

I don't do the part where he goes, "Obey your master", because it takes two guitars, and it would sound silly doing it by myself. :p

Ignore the major screwups at ~1:30 and ~2:55, please. :p

And I'm just learning the interlude, can't do it very well, as you'll be able to tell... ;)

I don't do the part at ~6:30 because I didn't want to make a fool out of myself.. ;) I know the notes, but it's hard.

Wow, lotta smilies in that post..

Listened to about half the song, not bad at all, man. Not my kind of music, but you sounded good with it. Even your "major screwups" sounded minor to me. If you want to showcase your musicianship, though, post something with a little less distortion. ;)

Ditto with what Bigs said. It's not really to my tatse in terms of it's metal style, but it shows you can definitely play guitar :)

[muso gearhead mode]
So..erm, what kind of gear did you use to record that?

I cranked my distortion up so you could hear me over the song, heh.. But "less distortion" isn't in my vocabulary.. <G> But I know what you mean.. I don't really know much, if any, slow accoustic-ish, or solo-ish stuff.. yet..

LOL.. I used some 3$ microphone, and set it up next to my amp.. :p My amp is a Crate GX15 practice amp, through a Boss MetalZone.. my guitar is a fender Strat with normal stock Single Coils.. :(.. Heh.. Somehow I got my SB Live! to record whatever is playing through WAV out, with whatevers coming in through the Mic.. Don't remember how i did it, but it seems to work okay. ;)

Just curious, do you mean, you don't really care for Metal, or, you don't like Metallica's style of metal? :p Don't get me wrong, but I don't even consider "90s" metal to be heavy.. ;) I live for that modular crunch sound.. ;)

BTW, if you want to listen to one of my bands songs, in real audio format, click here. The quality is absolutely terrible (it sounds better on the original recording). For some reason we compressed it and it sounds horrible, but um...yeah.

RealPlayer sucks for encoding music, especially at the lower bitrates.. heh..

What do you mean you didn't hear any sound? Try turning your volume up.. After you've downloaded the whole song.. :p It wasn't a live broadcast or something, LOL..

Damn, That's awesome Snow.. even though you can't mosh around to it, I wish I could play stuff like that, heh..

Well I said that before I listened to more of it, it gets heavier, heh.. Who's singing? :) You, or someone else? What do you play(instrument?)

Wow, thanks Eli - I'm playing guitar on that, although we have another guitarist who does the singing as well, then we have the drums and bass of course. We wrote that song about a year ago but it wasn't until about 4 or 5 months ago that it actually took shape and we recorded it, along with 4 other tracks. Our CD's coming out over he in a few weeks (just on a little indy label, but it's a start hey? ;)).

BTW - on the very remote off chance that you were wondering, the tuning for that song is: D A C* F* A C* :)

AngelOfDeath- thanks. :) What do you mean by "You could perhaps do this once you can play it all?"

Do what? :)

Snow- Interesting. We haven't fiddled(We being my brother and I.. we play together) around with other tunings. :( Don't know why. Don't really know how to tune, other than standard, I guess. Damn electronic tuner..

We just practice the tuned down Metallica songs in standard tuning. ;) Of course it doesen't sound right, but you get the jiff of things.. and it's still practicing.. ;)

Those of you that don't play an instrument(and perhaps some that do..) probably have no idea how hard puppets is to play.. ;) It took me many months just to learn to pick solid down at 220bpm.....

Still don't understand what you're implying, I did play the whole song, except a few little parts.. Is that what you mean?

See my post above.. ;) But incase your too lazy to scroll up.. I have a Crate GX15 practice amp, with a Boss MetalZone.. and a Fender Strat, with stock single coils.. :( We're eagrly waiting to get enough money to buy some better stuff, particularly guitars..

I have the same little crate amp in my room, I've had it for about 4 years. Although obviously I use a decent (Fender Valve) amp for live/recording/rehearsal purposes. My main guitars are a Fender Jaguar with a hotrail humbucker and a Fender Jazzmaster. You familiar with these? They're not really as widespread as the Strat but I love em' :)

Are you in a band? You clearly have the ability to join one - you should try and write a few basic tracks perhaps? That's a good way to get started and then just take it from there :)

Mucman - you could set up a tripod account and host them there perhaps? If you don't want to do that, you could send them to me and I'd host them...if you like.

Nope, I'm not in a real band.. Just me and my brother fiddling around, really.. We'd love to get together with a bassist and drummer that could jam with the stuff we know.. heh..

God, I wish I knew where to even begin writing my own material. I really don't even know where to start.. I rarely come up with just random stuff when I'm playing, I'm too afraid it's going to sound goofy, or silly, or something. My brother, on the other hand, can doodle all day long.. I don't know what my problem is.. I just practice covers.. sometimes for 7-8 hours a day.. Well, on the weekends now that I have a job.. To me, I still suck.. I want to learn to solo as good as I can rhythm, then I'll consider myself decent.. heh.. well, I know I don't suck, but I'm still a novice, as far as any "real" guitar player is concerned..

We don't even know chords.. Like, "real" chords, not just the power chords.. If someone said "gimme a G", we'd sit there with a blank expression on our faces..

We really want to go and take lessons, to learn some of these things, that we haven't learned from studying Metallica tab books for the last 2 years.. Heh..

Lessons might be good, but not a necessity. I never took any lessons personally, and I don't think I ever will. Try and veer away from doing covers all day...or perhaps try and compose a song that follows the same basic format of a song you really like (but is different if you see what I mean). Also, bare in mind that whatever you write - it can just be between you and the tape recorder. If you come up with an idea that you even *think* might have a bit of potential, what's the harm in having a bash at recording it. Then listening back to it, and if it's worth it, try to add stuff.

If you can get hold of a tuner (or tune by ear) try some of those tunings, or even the one I gave you. A lot of them are open tunings and you'll actually find it quite a lot easier to play cool sounding rythem parts. :)

Sorry, Eli, I forget to comment on your playing! For 2 years that's pretty good! Don't worry though, the solos will come with time! I've been playing for 5 years and I wouldn't bother attempting that solo yet. That crate amp definitely has some nice 'crunchy' sound to it though :)

I've been playing saxes and other various instruments for over 11 years now, and I wouldn't even try to play anything as fast as Master of Puppets (unless, of course, you cound the Charlie Parker stuff I warm up on ;)) I play a little bit of bass, but I jsut sold my amp (a Peavey TKO115) to pay off some bills.
