Pay her bills for testing, yeah. Pay her money because this happened to her, not so much.

So what if she can't eat out? it's doing her a favor.

Yeah, I'm sure there's some emotional distress involved, but that's life.

I will stab you with a needle.

You will have to go get your blood tested up to 6 months because some diseases can take that long until they show up on your blood test.

Also out of fear of having HIV she might and should be taking pills right now as a safety measure. This will help slow down the disease and this is common practice for health care workers just in case they came in contact with the disease.

Sounds like hell for 6 months.

Her biggest risk is hepatitis. It is VERY hard, if not near impossible to get HIV from ingesting the virus.

A million? No. That's absurd.

I guarantee you that your lips have more cuts than your pee wee.

Ever eat fries with ketchup? I am sure you got ketchup all over your lips.

Now replace ketchup with blood.

Such an ignorant statement.

You don't have near enough information to make such a sweeping statement.

Like I said, it is nearly impossible to contract HIV through ingestion. So unlikely that prophylactic drugs are absurd in this case.

Her fear should be hepatitis, if anything.

It's not like kissing.

The blood was all over the fries.

It is possible but rare to get HIV by kissing.

This is not the same as kissing.

This is why health care workers wear gloves when they touch people who are bleeding.

The human lip has many cuts and she came in direct contact with the blood.

I think she could potentially get more than $10k. There is a very real and potential chance of becoming ill with something or another due to the blood. As such getting tested, as she is doing, is definitely a must. It would have been perfectly reasonable for McDonald's to pay for her medical bills, and they should have been more than happy to do that.

Since McDonald's essentially blew her off and more importantly has a history of ignoring health issues regarding their customers (e.g. the coffee incident), I very well see her being awarded punitive damages in excess of that $10k.

It appears that the lady was reasonable and did what she should have done, but McDonald's basically ignored her. That is unacceptable behavior on the part of the corporation.

I agree. She doesn't deserve a huge amount. Its not really McDonald's fault for what happened. Its a single employee's fault. (or maybe 2-3 employees).

Have you (or anyone else) thought that perhaps maybe it was truly an accident? Fast food moves at a very quick pace, it's possible that the employee got cut without realizing it (happens to me working on computer cases all the time). It may not have been intentional. And...how much blood was it? Just a little smear? Do we really know all the facts here??

Even if it was an accident, the person is still at fault. I didn't say fire his ass or whatever. Thats up for the employer to figure out.

How do you know she didn't?

You can't prove otherwise. Therefore she has to be treated as if she did.

:::sigh:::

Again, contraction of HIV by ingestion is so rare, it's just silly to administer prophylactic drugs that have hard core side effects. In fact, I bet you'd be hard pressed to find ANY cases of infection through ingestion of the virus.

Well yeah but so many people are like "OH GIVE HER $5 MILLION!!" That's ridiculous. Sure there is fault but if truly an accident it's not like there was any malicious intent with the employee doing it on purpose. The point is we just don't know everything, so people coming on here and saying that this should happen or that should happen is very premature and useless.

The article says she was down to the last few fries. Couldn't have been much at all if it took a while to see the blood.

lol you accusing us like we are in court is even more useless and quite comical.

A woman who said she found blood smeared inside her bag of french fries is suing McDonald's Corp. for at least $10,000.

So actually, there is no reason to jump to the conclusion that the french fries were covered in blood.

Are you reading the same thread that the rest of us are? There are not big demands to have her paid "$5 million" dollars nor are people claiming it was malicious.

Sort of ironic to be asking for facts when you sort of ignore them yourself.

That is absurd. Sure it's gross, but until there is proof that she contracted some sort of illness or disease from it - she deserves only medical bills and perhaps the modest $10,000 settlement. She doesn't deserve millions of dollars for this.

My point is that we don't know whether she came in direct contact with the blood, how much blood there was, etc. etc. Making these ridiculous statements is worthless.

I agree, I think McDonalds needs to be made an example of in this case. Blowing off something like this requires a healthy verdict. I would say something north of 100K not so much for her suffering but to teach McDonalds a lesson.

She only wanted her medical bills paid for at first, but the showed her they didn't care. So now she has to sue them. They should pay punative damages so this isn't done again. 1 Million seems fair to me.

You schmuck, you have to assume the worse, dear Lord it can be somebody's life at stake. THINK!

I work in a laboratory and at times I deal with biological substances (i.e. blood) and if I was to ingest it you always, always, always, always, assume the worse.

Always.
