Answer: Because the large fry comes with 4 pieces and they want to make sure you buy combos, not just the drink. The fries might actually be more profitable than the drink.

Yeah and when you order the combo, you'll have to say Medium drink, but large fries. o.o

All the McDs around here have a deal where any size soda or tea is $1. Given that a medium soda is $1 and a large soda is $1, they put the pieces on the medium to encourage you to get less for the same price.
Ahh same here, but I wasn't aware the medium was $1 as well since the small is on the $1 menu now, not the medium. Or maybe my McDonalds is just shitty and it's not $1... =( I'll see next time I go.

I've won two Angus wraps.

Does anyone remember the Olympics promo games they used to have? Where depending on the medal an American won you'd get a different free food item. I miss that game.

That promotion put krustyburger out if business.

Around here, they have the $1 any size drink, but the only other $1 drink is on the $1 menu and that is essentially a small size.

CLASSIC. Awesome call Spidey

During the Summer of 1984, Krusty Burger launched a promotion that gave free burgers to those who pick Olympic Events won by the United States on their game cards. The games involved in the promotion were games that were traditionally won by the Russians. Unfortunately for Krusty, the Russians boycott the Olympics, and the United States win almost every event, costing him $44 million. He then vows on camera to spit on every fiftieth burger as a result of his loss http://forums.anandtech.com/#cite_note-0

Yeah, but how much more would it really cost to tell them you want your fries large sized, but a medium drink? I bet they'd just charge you the large size price for both (and all you're really losing out on is the extra volume of HFCS you'd otherwise consume).

So far, I've won 30 Coke reward points (twice) and a medium fries. I don't even bother with the board game, since I realize how astronomical the chances of winning are.
