I miss the heatlamps. No joke. Big Macs just aren't the same without being thoroughly warmed thoroughout. A Big Mac used to be this one, wonderful, homogenous experience. Now it actually tastes like bread + thin meat patties + lettuce.....

I dont know its hit and miss with all fast food when it comes to service. I guess it depends where you live.

For me Whataburger has ALWAYS, everytime Ive gone, managed to get something screwed up or my order is cold when they give it to me. So I stopped going(maybe its just the one in my home town). Theres a Whataburger, a Jack in Box, and a McDonalds, all within a block with eachother. McDonalds, manages to survive, because the other places screw up alot. When Whataburger or Jack in Box first opened in my hometown they were packed, now Id say McDonalds serves more people than either of those. Wendys doesnt get much buisness at all.

The quality of the food and service depend on where you live.

As for quickness, Wendys and Whataburger take 5-10 times longer than McDonalds to get you your food. I dont know why anyone says McDonalds is slow, its far faster than anyone else, except maybe Taco Bell.

could part of it be because people won't seem to pay more than a dollar for their hamburger there??? i think they do pretty good considering the budget they stay in

of course i think a little less spent on the advertising and a little more on the burger would make that dollar taste that much better :)

I try to avoid fast food any more, but when I do eat it, I usually go for Subway (mmmm - a *real* sandwich!) or the Arby's "market fresh" sandwiches. Arby's is a little more expensive, but they are good sandwiches tho.

they switched to made-to-order alot more than 2 quarters ago.

the classic egg mcmuffin (with ham, not their sausage nast) is my second favorite. the SBS is bigger and has better bread (sourdough pwns english muffins) and is therefore greater.

wnied is partially right on why McD is losing money.
Your reasoning that McDs has "bad burgers or food" is so far away from the truth.
McDs, BK and Wendys have always had the same menu for about 20-30 yrs now so why the sudden change ??

If McDs target the average 15-25 yrs old, sure they wouldn't be on top all these yrs.
NO, they target the FAMILIES and families consist of kids.
So if you ask kids where is there favorite place, the obvious answer is McDs.
And when the parents bring their kids to the store, they have no choice but to eat there also.

McDs used to have the edge on their competition because of their service....i.e. FAST SERVICE.
Ever since they started trying to be like Wendys by making burgers to order...they lost their lead in the service department.
Franchises are making less money because it takes more employees to run a store now.

Its the worst kept secret but McDs are trying real hard to bring back the "BIN" now.(its what they call that holds all the food).
Stores can now pick their top 4 burgers and pre-make them and keep it in the heating zone.

I can go on and on why I think McDs is losing money nut the fact is that the fast food industry is not doing too good as a whole.
Burger King just went through ownership and their 2nd largest franchise declared bankruptcy a few months ago.

Someone also were right how the corporate is building too many stores and compete with the franchisees.

I know quite a bit about the business because I'm a store manager at a McDs in Fla.
The store I'm at, our franchise has another store about 2 miles away and the coporate decides to open another store about 1 1/2 miles apart from each of the store. This is so unneccessary......just to show how greedy the coporate is.

meh... the sausage is the best part imo. that's actually why i don't like the jack in the box ones, i think their sausage is way nastier than mcd's. plus, mcds has way better egg, with their in-tact yolk look.

i grew up on Big Breakfasts...probably why I detest that little brown patty as if it were a squished turd.

yeah, but i was referring to the sausage patty, which is also present in big breakfasts.

Mcdonalds used to use real eggs for everything until about 92.
They switched to pasturized eggs for all their folded and scrambled egss.
They still use real eggs for the round eggs though....yes the red yolk is REAL.

This department is where McDs shine. They are far and away the leader in breakfast sales.
Wendys tried selling breakfast about 15 yrs ago and flopped big time.

companies need to stop with the advertising and just focus on food quality and standards.

there is a mcdonalds on every block in america, they dont' NEED t.v. commercials or stupid radio commercials. they need to spend the money on making their food taste better.

Wendy's OWnz Mickey D's.

You are exactly right. McDonald's success is largely based on great marketing for a mediocre product. With talk of eliminating Ronald McDonald as their spokeclown, it appears that they might have to come up with a new marketing ploy. I forsee "eXtreme McDonald's" or something equally pathetic in the future.

They better not go back on the 99 cents menu items.

...actually they can do away with all those items as long as they switch the Filet o Fish to 99 cents.

Stuff doesnt taste right in McDs. I remeber those "bins" that kept everything heated. Somehow the food tasted much better after having a few minutes of extra heat after being assembled.

But the fries, light, just enough salt, not too greasy... hard to beat. But Jack's fries, this strange flavor that wants me going back for more...

Haven't eaten there in years. If I want burgers and fries I will go to Whataburger or Burger King. The food tastes more wholesome. The last few times I went to McDonalds it tasted artificial.

The reason McDonalds is losing money has nothing to do with the food or the service. The earnings loss was a result of the decreased cashflow and penalties resulting from pulling many of it's stores out of foreign markets. Typical restructuring costs.

Do you think if "large" people lobbied hard enough they could get the federal government to bailout the fast food industry? Spin it as maybe aiding national security somehow....yeah, that's it...law enforcement must eat, right?
