bullsh*t, show the cost breakdown. i've seen a few and materials take up a whole lot more then 15 cents. its not even remotely rational to think burger materials are 15cents.

I agree, 15 cents just doesen't sound right. There's no way. Buns, meat, condiments, toppings, wrapping.. that would average to 3 cents/item.

Not going to happen.

Where's CTrain(I think that's it) when you need him? 😀

We had a chart in the grill area at my McD. IIRC, the little patties are about 12c each and the quarter patties are around 25c each. Each topping is a few cents, bun is a few cents. So on a big n tasty, the materials probably come to around maybe 60-80 cents. After overhead, they definitely lose money. But all of the sandwiches are relatively low-profit. They make their money on the other stuff. A drink only costs 5-10 cents, yet you pay over a dollar for it. etc.

Think about it. When you go to the grocery store and buy hamburger buns, you pay about $1.50 for 8 of them. Mcdonalds probably buys about 2000 at a time, and I'm sure they get a huge discount on them for buying so many because most of the costs on the grocery store buns come from bi-daily deliveries, packaging and store mark-up. When you buy 2000 buns at a time, you buy direct from the bakery (which elimates the store's fee) and you can have cheaper packaging because it doesn't need to look pretty. Additionally, this happens once or twice a week, so they know they have a continuous source of profit.

That's how fast food companies can afford to make hamburgers for so cheap. You buy cheaper ingredients in mass quantities, you get cut some fat discounts.

From the McDonald's website: (check if you don't believe me)

slight discounts perhaps, but not enough to make a burger for 15 cents. that is absolutely absurd.

yeah i wasnt being quite accurate but the little crap base hamburgers are about 15 to 20 cents to make. If any of the burgers cost much then we wouldnt have buckets full of them to be thrown away. They also wouldnt let people have free food. I worked at a MC D's for a couple of months and it was the worst job I have ever had. the materials for the food don not cost much its all the other stuff like the equipment, electricity, and the small amount of money they pay thier workers lol and whatnot that cost money.

OK, I'll put the arguement to rest.

The Big and tasty cost .55 in its final stage sold to the customer.
The Double cheese about .34 and the Spicy/McChicken about .35

Lets say if McDonalds were to sell just Big N Tasty burgers......they would not make any money...even if people buy drinks and such.
Food cost needs to be under 30% for McDonalds to make any money.

As for someone who thinks McDs buy cheap ingredients.....thats far from the truth.
Sure they can do that and the customers wouldn't notice much but they do buy quality stuff like Heinz ketchup and Vlasic pickles.

How's that? Some stores have 39-cent singles all the time, with 59-cent doubles. They gotta pay for overhead and labor, sure, but why can't the ingredients for a burger be just 15 cents?

I don't have my list on me but the Double Cheese cost about .34 to make. Don't know off hand how much a simple hamburger.

Kraft cheese, too. I remember reading the info on that stuff. The cheese actually kills bacteria on a surface.
