A lot of the GOP have never been in line with McCain so this does not surprise me.

Thus far, the Fingolfin269 post best partly sums it up. But this whole collective set of clueless bastard McCain critics totally miss the point. Its almost like we are looking at the marketing department for the US auto industry running on their long past record. And pretending they are selling a superior product engineered to meet new times long after its clear to everyone that their products are anything but able to meet the current needs.
But these people are marketing people, and it never occurs to them that they should have been screaming at the engineering department years ago, and saying give me a superior product because marketing can only do so much.
But these clueless McCain critics never went to the GOP leadership and said, truth be told, GWB policies are flopping in the real world, and therefore you boys in engineering better start doing better engineering, and instead are saying McCain's out of sync lips prevent us from applying enough lipstick to sell the pig.
Worse yet, they miss the one consistent message of the 2008 Presidential primaries, these same critics had a plethora of other GOP turkeys they were pushing, turkey maybe more amenable to those same lip stick applicators,
and the very GOP electorate firmly rejected them and choose McCain because he was the best of a very bad lot. And when those critics are now out of touch with the GOP electorate base, they have quite clearly lost all connections with reality.
The message is, GWB&co is what is pulling down McCain, and even though McCain is much better than GWB, he is too little too late. And no amounts of GOP marketing genius's can sell an inferior product now after the epic failure of the GWB years.
And the total future trainwreck is yet to come. Its now almost certain that the GOP
will get clobbered in the election of 11/08. And if that happens, what is left of the GOP is going to have to rebuild itself from the ashes on up. I hope, for the sake of the GOP and the country, the GOP does not decide their mistake was not in being exactly like GWB. But if they turn to these idiot McCain critics, that is the message they will give to the GOP.
