A teleprompter system often uses several glass screens so the speaker can look left, right, and center, and still be reading from the teleprompter. The ones on the left and right are often just clear glass HUD type displays.

All of the candidates use teleprompt systems, even when they appear to be looking around at random.

Clear screens in use by Obama.

sorry, but they are usually polarized so that you can only read them from a very specific angle.

it's always funny to hear the politicians that are reading from the prompts, versus freehanding it. Off the cuff, you hear them say: aaahhhh, ummm, use fragment sentences, and very disjointed speaking style. Reinforces the idea that most politicians can't think on their feet and need alot of help in sounding "so political" lol.

Bill Clinton didn't seem to have a problem with it...

Most people say ahh umm etc etc. You just don't notice it because it's a part of normal speech, and it only seems out of place in speeches because we are used to them reading.

Most people DO notice the annoying habit some have of saying ahh, umm, etc.

It is hardly a part of "normal" speach; it borders on a speech impediment in some people.

Fortunately, it can be helped, the person just needs to be aware of how distracting and unprofessional such speech problems are and make the effort to solve them.

Do you honestly believe that Bill Clinton did not use a teleprompter?

Sometimes people can't parse what they read as they are speaking.

One of my favorites. Along with Charles Barkley calling himself a dumbass and everyone laughing and him not getting it at first.

I don't get why McCain is unable to sound natural when he's giving a speech while other politicians can.

I was wondering when someone would make this thread. A couple weeks ago at his speech in some factory, it was unbearable to watch. He was looking down at his notes the whole time, public speaking skills ftl.
