Heard mixed results on other deal forums, some MC will only let you apply the deal to a few specific boards, others will let you apply to virtually any compatible board.

Three combo deals in the email from MC. The ATX boards are 16x and 4x on the PCIe x16 slots, with USB3. Think the third board is a budget model, for 95W TDP processors. Good thing I'm not too close to a MC. Have a newish Phenom II X6 @4100 MHz which could use a better board, but I'd probably never get around to selling the 8 core cpu.

I think this deal is a huge YMMV situation.

I had a machine take a dump on me and I was actually considering a 8120 with the asus sabertooth board. Just don't feel like having to argue to get this deal. The wording on the ad is vague and is open to interpretation. Though I read it as you buy an 8120 and you get a 109.99 off a board (+ a 10 instant rebate) -> off ANY board.

We'll see if I can get my machine going today. If not, I might be in the mood for a healthy debate

That's pretty hot, if it could be applied to the ASrock 990FX Extreme4 board. ($160 normal price)

That would make an FX 8120 + mobo the same price as I paid for the X6 1045T + mobo last Sunday.
 
Microcenter in Cambridge, MA, the deal quoted by OP works as stated. The only other board that got a discount with the FX-8120BE is ASUS M5A88-V EVO which went from $119.99 to $79.99. Only $40 discount.

Weird.
 
Yeah, it says "up to $120" which means that you would probably have to buy a $250+ board to get that $120.

A warning about the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-52P board. MC is selling the revision 4.0 of this board which is garbage. I have both revision 3.1 and revision 4.0. I managed to fry revision 3.1 trying to overclock my 1055T a little too much. Very little voltage increase.
Revision 4.0 can't even get close to my old stable overclock that board 3.1 had (3.5ghz with no voltage increase).

Very informative about VRM's. Rev 4.0 is only 3.1. Not worth it.
 
I built my wife a PC with that Gigabyte 970-UD3 board. Stable, pretty well laid out, lots of IO ports. For a "value" board it has good power delivery and is a full size ATX board.

I try to make sure she gets good hardware 🙂
 
While the original deal ended, there is a new similar deal now, basically the same thing but it's more clear about what you can get. No need to argue with a store manager to make it work now!

Tempted to get another 8120 w/ sabertooth board to build a triple GPU bitcoin miner, though I'll need to convince my brother to assist in the purchase since it's a limit 1 CPU per household.
 
I want to get this. Can't think of a way to get my wife to approve of this though. I already have a good machine.

That's a good board, but it doesn't support Crossfire or SLI.

The ASrock 970 Extreme4 supports both.

There was talk on one forum, that ASrock was actually using a 990X chipset in their "970" board, in order to facilitate that, since the 970 boards were never licensed by NV for SLI support, only the more expensive 990X and 990FX.

Has anyone been sucessful getting a discount on a motherboard that wasn't explicitly mentioned on the promo page? I'm hopeful that the three mobos on the lower right that are $100 off, means that you can get $100 off any compatible high-end mobo.

The one I'm specifically interested in is the Asrock 990FX Extreme4 board. I picked up one of those a couple of Sundays ago, for my X6 1045T hex-core, and I would like to pick up another one with an FX 8120.

Then I can compare them. 🙂
 
Page 28 of the Feb. online flyer says you can make your own combo with $40 off on any AMD mobo when you buy one of the $100 & up AMD cpus. Likely waste a trip if you try to get them to do better than that. Been thinking about that ASRock 970 Extreme4 which you surprised me with, by noting that it had 8x sli and crossfire capability. Had looked at the other 970 boards (8x 4x) and was leaning toward the costlier 990 models.

Does that gigabyte board mean I can't run my GTX 295 on it since it's in SLI at all times? GA-970A-UD3
 
GA-970A-UD3 does not have official sli/crossfire support. Will that prevent you from doing it? Not sure.
If you are concerned, spend the extra $30 on the asrock 990 board.
