Cobalt uses the new Delta platform and engines while the Mazda3 uses Ford's new "global" FWD platform shared between the upcoming next-gen Focus and Volvo S40
Who's actually developing the Ford C-segment platform? I know the Mazda6 chassis was developed in house by Mazda. Will the same hold true for the Mazda3?

Mazda developed the Mazda 3 inhouse (which will replace the current Protege). Pics of the Mazda3 sedan havent been released yet, just the hatchback so far.
Ford is gonna use the current Mazda6 platform for a whole host of cars, I think they even plan a small SUV out of it. Also, the Mazda3's chassis is basis for the Focus.
