it's not like a dual exhaust will decrease restriction over a single good exhaust. it's a Inline 4 engine not a v type engine which means that there is 1 line of exhaust ports.

exactly, there is only one cylinder head on inline engines, dual exhaust on an inline engined car is a waste of carrying around an extra 20 lbs in muffler dead weight.

cars look better with 2.

Atleast we know now you're into cosmetics more than engineering.

🙂
Why don't you string up another exhaust tip?

I hope they cure the wheelhop. I gotta be careful accelerating hard into a corner on slippery surface in my 3s or I get wheelhop galore. I guess LSD may help with that.

Hatch only? Blah.

qft.

needless weight up top for the rollover and reduced cornering stability and more body roll ftl.

Um, actually I think in many cases, wagons/hatches have better handling due to better weight distrobution than their sedan counterparts.

the Mazda 3 is FWD more rear weight just slows it down.

as for rwd hatches, the more weight up top takes away the advantage of more weight in the rear. Besides, they have the option of adding weight on a coupe in the underbody back area to weight it down in the trunk to the same weight, gut the advantages of that is the weight will be low and the center of gravity will likely decrease.

If you're obsessed with COG, you aren't going to beat a Mini for COG, which is a hatchback. Handling though isn't so cut and dry. Lower COG is not always better, even lower weight is not always better. If it was then convertibles would dominate !

The real world is more complicated than a perfectly flat skip pad. and I doubt there's a significant difference in COG between a Mazda3 hatchback or sedan, anyway.

And unless you plan to race in the SCCA run-offs none of this makes any difference. Makes more sense to buy a car that's looks and/or functionality pleases you. Personally I think the Mazda 3 5 door is beautiful, while the sedan is plain looking.

AWD FTW

Probably would have made it 3,400 - 3,500 lbs.
AWD isn't going to add 800lbs.

Nice car, but after my subaru I don't plan on owning anything but an AWD car.

Based on how fat the Speed6 got I wouldn't be surprised if the 3 got extremely fat as well from the addition of AWD.

Does a fwd car with 265 hp still have a big problem with torque steer?

FWD in itself is not the cause of torque steer. It is the fact that the drive shafts are of unequal length that is causing that.

Didn't Oldsmobile make a FWD car with a longitudal mounted big-ass V8 in the late 60's / early 70's or so? No torque steer in that one.

Yes, and it also had a chain to connect the engine to the trans😉

Nice. This still slated for late summer? I was able to 'Lazarus' my car late last year so if I can get it to run long enough, I think this'll replace it.

Good for Mazda, though it doesn't interest me much. I would prefer AWD and sedan version.

my thoughts exactly. well, AWD or no AWD, it's still good effort by Mazda.

if you want AWD, get a S40 🙂

I don't like Mazda3's styling, looks kinda weird. But whatever makes you horny when you get behind a wheel.
