I have to ask... why is the status of someone's citizenship so important? Blah blah I know this is normally a secret service requirement... but how often does the secret service check the backgrounds on people who shake the presidents hand?

What would happen if the secret service discovered an illegal alien? What if there is someone whose parents were born in Pakistan? Would the secret service use profiling to keep an eye on that student?

We need to investigate to make sure there is no profiling going on.

Whether or not that means Obama is a hypocrite for calling the AZ laws "misguided" is another story. An illegal alien isn't going to have a background available for a background check, right? Obviously they wouldn't want to gamble with that.

I agree but this this whole shitty mess with immigration is not now nor has it ever been uner the control of a single person.

It requires not only the President, but also the spineless wonders in congress and in the states.

You are correct, I am posted this because I am curious about all the negative attitudes of people in regards to the "new" law (well enforcement enabler) in Arizona. Do not the citizens of the state of Arizona have a right to protection? That is one of the main tasks of the Federal government. I am not dissing the secret service for protecting the POTUS... just the obama administrations attitude to the law.

They SS are asking for citizenship status. Does this imply that non-citizens are more of a threat to the POTUS? Do legal non-citizens get access at this event? I don't know.

And I agree with what the SS is doing and has always done. Whether you like obama or not... having him assasinated is not a good thing for this country.

The people of Arizona are not the POTUS. However, the citizens feel the need to express thier rights of freedom from economic and criminal elements of the illegal immigrants entering the state from Mexico. If Arizona bordered Iceland and Icelanders were coming across and illegally working at 1/4th the going wage for legal labor, I would applaud this law just as loudly.

They do have a right to protection, but I don't see how requiring every single student at Kalamazoo Central to "show papers" is any form of discrimination since every one of them has to do it, whereas the AZ laws have the potential for it.

I agree with the AZ laws, but I also understand the point of view of the people that are opposed to it. I don't really think there is a credible "other" point of view for requiring the students to "show papers" before shaking Obama's hand.
