Maxtor 40GB $120 no rebate

well yesterday I bought the 40gb w/free zip drive. Drove up to staples and asked for a pricematch and it turns out it is a in-store rebate and they didn't pricematch 🙁

really? I recognize the model number (154000) from several months ago when I decided to buy my first maxtor hard drive(53073U6). I even called maxtor to find out what kind of hard drive that (154000) package is. They said that's a retail package number, not the hard drive designation, but failed to clarify the spec of that package. At that time around, of course, no ata100 product was around. So, I assumed this package contains ata66 drive.

Moffat Cafe, out of curiousity I did an altavista search on "ST0154000U". The various sites that came up listed this drive at ATA66. The fact that people are ordering the ATA100 PCI card in conjunction with this item leads me to believe it's an ATA66.

I swear, Staples CSRs must read AnandTech because I went through the trouble of deleting my cookies, creating a new user with a Tulsa, Ok zip code and place the order for the 40 gig, and then right before I finished checking out I changed my zip code to my correct one. The order went thorugh without a hitch. I waited forever for an email confirmation but never got one. I called Staples and they told me that any orders places on the 40 gig are being entered manually to check for stock in the buyers area.

Man they are getting good!

He shoots, he scores! I bought the Maxtor 40GB (actually 46GB is what I got) and Free USB Zip drive on Friday at Staples for 179.99. I went into staples today with a printout of the office depot web page listing it for 119.99. She gave me ABSOLUTELY no problem. If people are in the Atlanta area, it is the Staples by Northpoint. Pricematch Receipt

So, I currently have a USB Zip Drive and Maxtor 46GB drive for 119.95. I also ordered the Controller card for 49.99 + .16 staples or something - 20 coupon - 50 rebate netting a gain of about 20 bucks.

So I got a controller card, 46GB drive, USB Zip drive for about 99.99.

if it's the ata66 drive, then gaybay the controller away. i'm sure you can get more than $10 for it. you'll get a $40 rebate for buying the controller and drive. basic math tells me 10 + 40 = 50

actually you get a 50 buck rebate so you earn about 20 from that. Then you can egay teh ata100 controller away for whatever and shave some more off that HD. The lowest price I saw that controller for was about 40 bucks.

I got shut out of the Staples pricematch, so here is what I did:

OD 40GB ................$128.39
OD coupon...............$<10.00>
Staples ATA Card........$ 49.98
Staples clips...........$ .16
Staples coupon..........$<20.00>
Maxtor rebate...........$<50.00>
sell off card...........$<35.00>

Net cost of drive
delivered...............$ 63.53

There is always a way...🙂

I don't really need this Zip drive... Best buy said they would give me a store credit for 99.99 for it. I told them I received it as a gift and didn't want it. Hey, I'm not lying.. it was a gift. 🙂

I don't know ... that may push my ethics a bit. I do have some. 🙂

A Man told me, "there is no such thing as a fair price, there is only a price on which we can agree".

Go for it!

🙂

Well guys I finally got some sleep from 11 AM - 5 PM.

I should know the answer to this but does Best Buy price match 100% or do they give a little more 110%?

Guys, did I ever tell you guys you guys are geniuses? Seriously you guys come up with like everything possible in this whole freaking world to get really good deals. Now if we could combine our intelligence I believe we can take over the world.

no price match for me at staples. staples is still sucks!! it's prob stay that way till they close down. when that happens we'll have to find another store that is sucks

Well, didn't get as good of a deal as many of you... been away from the computer for 2 days, and I get screwed up the goatass... Got my drive from OD, for $116.50 shipped. Going to pick up the controller card now. Hey, if you guys run for the seat, I'll vote for you. Hehehe... anyway, Staples is finally getting smart. They probably have the drive in stock, but took it down from the page to prevent us from pricematching. Staples is suck!:|

Yea, I suspect instead of the manager's explaining to all the CSRs they are going to do crazy mess like the $50 extra shipping charge on the BB 12x CDRW deal a few days ago...they will just make the item out of stock once they get a bunch of price matching requests. When the sale is over...put them back up. Who wants to argue that staples won't have them in stock when OD raises their price back up? I bet they will.

I just went in to my local B&M Staples store and price matched the Maxtor 7200. I simply printed out a copy of the officedepot.com page showing the $119. Then I used a $20 off coupon (guess I should have used a better one - oh well). But the price came to $99 and the box has a sticker saying it is a 45GB for the price of 40GB PLUS Ultra ATA/100.

Rebate form says this qualifies as a kit - so I'll get a $50 rebate on top of this, making the drive kit cost $49. There were PLENTY in stock and absolutely NO problem getting the price match.

Gesh - with the rebate this is a HOT deal! I'm going back tomorrow for a few more!
