E D I T

sorry guys, staples will NOT price match the B&M stores for any president's day prices...the top of the flyer says 'offer good in store only' and they are sticking by it

i called 20+ CSR's to try & get it to work...finally found 1 who was willing to do the adjustment...she called me local store where i had one on hold (he-he) and was about to give me the credit when she got the memo not to price-match the flyer...oh well, still a damn good price at ~$50+, but just a matter of pride

if anyone in the atlanta area wants to go pick one up in the store just PM me & i'll tell you which store has it on hold for me...i've been trying to call them to telll them i don't want the drive but their phone has been non-stop busy

ok, my first post...so be gentle...i've mentioned this in several of the staples threads but i think it's HOT enough for its own thread:

1) Go to staples.com & add the Maxtor 20GB 5400 (sku #444012) to your cart

2) next search for item #443233 (Maxtor ATA-100 Controller Card) and add that to your cart

3) checkout, using any of the $30 off $100 coupons from the usual sites

with tax your total should be about $125

-staples has a $20 MIR on the drive (on the same page as the drive)
-maxtor has a $50 MIR on the controller card if you also buy a maxtor hard drive here
(you don't have to buy both at the same time or even same store, but if you don't the price adjustment at staples will drop you below the $100 needed for the coupon)

so now you are down to around $55...Staples Sunday Flyer shows that the drive will drop to $79 before the staples MIR...call them early sunday and ask them to do a price adjustment...i called them & they said they will price with their own B&M stores...someone else mentioned that they will only price match if the item is in stock at your local store, so call early...also the price drop will not drop you below $100, so they will not be able to screw you on the coupon

EDIT - for some reason the staples MIR is no longer on the page with the drive, go to the Staples Rebate Center and search for 444012 under 'sku/upc'...still comes up that way

Yup, a sticker comes on the box for the rebate. I called the staples rebate number and asked. The CSR said emphatically that a copy was ok. I promptly scanned the UPC code and faxed it off to the Coppell, TX rebate office.

Both rebates ask for original UPC off the Hard Drive. Usually the Staples rebate states "original or copy of UPC" but it doesn't say that on this one. I don't think you can combine the two rebates.

in one of the earlier threads someone said they had called staples and that a copy of the UPC would be acceptable because of the Maxtor rebate...i've also heard that if you submit your rebate online with staples you can then fax them your paperwork...anyone ever done this ??

Looks like they may have pulled the rebate to cut their losses. Deals like this don't last very long so you better jump when they come along.

Then again, open your eyes (wink) and find the REBATE link near the top left of the page, search under MAXTOR and you will find it. They just removed the link from the page, probably to slow us down.

And I bring this to your attention "Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions." Does this mean if you use a coupon you don't get the rebate?

I don't know if it does, but this is a good deal for 70 bucks, but a blazing deal for 50.00. Just a word of caution.

Another way to get the rebate is click on "Rebate Center" and select Maxtor from the list of manufacturers. It's the only available maxtor rebate right now.

no where on the staples maxtor rebate form does it say anything about original upc. and copies of the receipt are always fine. it looks like this one is a go.

i ordered over the phone with staples... will they send me an actual receipt, or just an invoice? if just an invoice, will that work for the rebates?

Gev's right. "2. Include UPC and Sales Receipts in an envelope"

Doesn't say original. As for "Offer not valid with any other rebates, offers or promotions", I'm more worried about it conflicting with the other rebate than the coupon. If lizardboy ever gets a response, that's something I'd trust (or at least something I could hold up if I had to go complain to someone)

I ordered the drive earlier today and got a conformation call saying that the drive had been shipped. However, I didn't order the controller card with it. Does anyone know if the $50 rebate will still work if I order the card separately from the drive?

yes you can...

on a seperate note, what exactly does this card do? how will it help me? i just got it cause it was free after rebate and it would keep the price above 100 so i can PM on sunday. any help?

jspinny,

from maxtor rebates

<< Do I have to purchase both products on the same day?

No. However, both products must be purchased with in the dates of the promotion. And a copy of both receipts is required.
>>

Just a note on the ATA100 rebate: I did that some time ago and this rebate actually goes through the Staples rebate center, so you can track it through the rebate center or over the phone even you just mail it and don't submit it online.

🙂

Well, I got one as well. Though the 5400rpm is a big performance limiter...the price is darn cheap enough and the free ATA100 card!!

When do I call staples for the PM? Also, do I call the normal staples number or is there a special staples.com number?

Thanks!
