I don't feel like pm'ing 3 folks. You can find the coupon in the forums over at fat wallet. There is a thread there with this same subject type line.

if i use this in my system with my existing 7200 rpm 20 gig drive. will it drag the 7400 rpm down to 5400 so they both run at the same speed?

Only if they are on the same IDE channel or transferring files between each other.

No, that's the spindle motor speed. They spin at that speed regardless.

Ordinary mainborad with two IDE channels + CDRW, DVD, 7200 RPM HD, 5400 RPM HD,
What do you do?
Are you saying that if HDs are on the same IDE channel, and Windows is on 7200 RPM, you only get the reduced 5400 speed if you run programs stored on the 5400 drive, is that right?

Sorry, missed 1st time.

that is incorrect. If you have 2 drives, and one is ata66 and the other is ata100, then they will both run @ ata66 if on the same cable. Windows ( or any OS that I know of ) doesn't care what the RPM's of the drive is. Just how data is transmitted.

I got mine today, I was wishing it was, but -- unfortunately it wasn't one of those "Congratulations we replaced your 40GB 5400 w/ a 40GB 7200RPM" deals they sometimes do. Still quite happy with 40GB for 35. Not worth the extra 43% in cost (+$15) to get the 7200RPM--at least not for what I plan on using it for.
