I can do 100lb dumbells for 6-8reps. Not sure what my max is. I weigh 160 - 165, depending if i sh!t that day or not.

305 @ 176 lbs. my junior year in college. I wanted to do 315 SO BAD (3 plates per side), but when I tried, I seriously thought my shoulders were going to come posteriorly out of socket it was so heavy. It freaking hurt. But, it was the first time I broke 300, so it was all good. :D

10 years ago when I worked out at work I maxed out at 265. Took me about 9 months to get there.



You guys should have seen it. We built one of the most full featured gyms you have ever seen from scratch. You'd be amazed what can happen when you turn a bunch of diemakers loose with a bunch scrap steel and a welder that's a bodybuilder.

I can do three or four sets of 145lbs now on the flat bench.
The max I ever tried was my weight (at that time) of 175. I was able to do one set.
I weigh 155 lbs now and my cardio is WAY better than it was when I was lifting heavily. We used to do chest and arms all the time and the one day that we would ever skip is leg day.
Now I run every other day.

heh i watched a guy who couldnt be more then 150lbs do 310! i was in fricken shock.

most i have ever seen done was about 500lbs. that was by the heavywait (250lbs+) wrestler. I was in shock. I just sat down and laughed. He looked over at me (i was wrestling at 125 at the time) and asked if i wanted to try it. bwhahah yeah sure.

I was never into weight lifting that much... back in college, I believe it was 160 or 170, but that was when I was doing tons of push-ups.
However, I've always had strong legs... in high school, the stack was 500 pounds - no problem, and I did the stack on one that was 750 pounds, which seemed pretty close to my limit. (I used to do a lot of serious bike-riding... very strong legs)

They made us throw it all out after some @sshole went to medical and complained that he hurt his back there.

Ahh, those were the days. Generous Motors. Getting paid to workout.

We have a free fitness center now though.

that was when I was in shape .... swimming 6000 yards per day 6 days a week and lifting 3 days a week in the morning.


Now-a-days ... I'd be lucky if I could break 200 ...

The most amazing feat of bench pressing that I've ever witnessed was one time at the gym when this guy asks me to spot him...and as I'm helping him load up the bar, I asked him repeatedly if he really could handle this. The guy looked like Tim Conway, except a little more padded around the middle: short, skinny arms, small chest, kind of an inverted lightbulb body shape. He worked up to 465 pounds, and I never had to do much more than touch the bar at the heaviest weight. He was only doing one or two reps with each weight, but, still, 465 is a lot even for someone who doesn't look like he's getting ready to film "Dorf on Weights."

Yup that is it. They 'use' to be. But where are they now? I hear it more often in the gym as I am there quite often. They use to be able to slam dunk. Like fvck they did and same with those imaginary squat number and 'certificates' they got from training 'courses' lol. Had this guy come in to the gym to squat. Loaded a bunch of weights without even warming up. Pulls out a quarter squat and nearly breaks his back. Awful form. Was painful to watch. All the time him telling me he was an instructor wtf?!

I did 280lbs while I was in the Navy. I now have carpal tunnel syndrome so no more power lifting for me.

That was declined by the way.

My all time lift was 250 (2 reps) when I was in HS. I was 16 and was working out all the time for physed class. I was and still am a big guy. But I was getting stronger and stronger. I surprised my teacher by how quickly I was gaining strength. I started to look like one of those "strongest men" guys. I stopped in the summer because I coudn't get any more weights at home. I needed more because I wasn't anywhere near peaking. I could've been huge. But I stopped.

I should get back into it.

I maxed at around 215 in college. After a decade-long hiatus, I'm back in the gym consistently and did 195 last weekend.

So many of you guys with 200lbs+ benches?? In the gym, the only few guys that do more than 2x45lbs + 2x35 plates on a 45lbs olympic bar (total = 205lbs) are pretty buff dudes.. on a flat bench, barbells and with good form. The poll here definitely doesn't represent the norm of a bunch of tech geeks :D

<-- 145lbs, 3x8 on a flat bench, barbells, no spotter. Should be able to push slightly more if I feel safe with a spotter :)

That's pretty darn good. I got 25 pounds of bodyweight on you and I can only do about 5 reps with 315 confortably.

Bench press has been a personal goal for me.

Many years back when I first began to darken the door of the gym, I was horribly embarrassed to only be able to work out with about 100lbs (less than 50% of my body weight at the time.) Big dudes at the gym were popping on 45lb plates all over the bench, and I was stuck using 25 and 35lb plates.

did 410 lbs a few years ago @245lbs... attempted 430 but couldn't complete lift

currently, can probably do ~ 365 , I'm a svelte 265 :D

Im waiting for alkemyst to come in and tell us a long winded story of how he first started lifting puny weights like us mortal humans, but soon moved on to things like cars and then trailer homes.
