Hasn't every publisher been promising this for about seven years now?

I hope for the best.

I'm not satisfied until I get to see Max Payne's constipated face...now with more constipation than ever.

I guess I just hope it isn't like other games that promise the moon and either don't give it, or they do deliver, but with awful performance.

I will be optimistic! The glass is half full... the glass is half full!

The problem I have with this game is mostly in terms of the style, not the graphics. Max Payne 1 and 2 had this great film noir style that made the story more intriguing, IMO, and helped it stand out from all of the other generic shooters out there.

This one just seems cliche and uninspired. Like they just took some generic story and environment (anyone seen the trailer for Far Cry 3 yet?) and slapped the Max Payne name on it because they could. Kinda lame IMHO.

The graphics looked pretty terrible in the trailer, it's gonna take a lot more than slightly higher res textures to fix that...

Edit: My opinion is based on the TV trailer. The game play video in the OP looks a lot better.

I'd rather get a real Max Payne game that used the old engine, than this abortion of a production. Now there definitely won't be a real Max Payne sequel unless they do some kind of prequel thing. The franchise just went to crap in one shot.

Let's be honest, the game was decent for it's time, the whole bullet time was a big deal then in a gimmicky sort of way. But if you recall, playing through the campaign got monotonous pretty fast--shoot a room full of enemies that keep coming at you, watch some cut scenes, shoot another room full of enemies, watch another cut scene, repeat.

To say that they should make another game like Max Payne 1 and 2 means you have no foresight or understanding of the evolution of video games, so I hope for your own sake, don't ever consider a career in game design.

I just played Max Payne for the first time not too long ago, and I thought it was great fun.

It's one of the few games I finished in the past year or so.

I don't think anyone is arguing that they should have made the exact same game again. Sure, gameplay concepts change. Bullet time is old news at this point, I agree. That's fine.

What most people, including myself, are concerned about is the style of the game differing so drastically from the original two games. Not the graphics, not the gameplay mechanics, but the style specifically. You could stick any random cliche action hero into this game and I don't think anyone would know the difference. To me, using the Max Payne name to sell another generic FPS is pretty lame, but to each their own I suppose..

EDIT:

Here's an example of what i'm talking about.

Max Payne 3 trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYPnDDr7sMk

Far Cry 3 trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYPnDDr7sMk

You could literally swap the main characters around in these two trailers and i'd bet most people would be hard pressed to find any kind of significant difference unless they were told the game titles before hand. The stories are based in similar environments with a totally generic plot line. Boring. This is NOT Max Payne. This is Rockstar acquiring the rights to the name so they can sell more copies of a generic FPS.

I can tell people totally forgot there was a Max Payne movie with Mark Walburg. Understandable, it was a forgettable movie anyway.

What do you mean by "This is NOT Max Payne" and why do you get to decide that? I believe it is upto the creators of the game to decide how they want to take a game franchise forwards. If they would've done the same "noir" thing that you're talking about, you would be the first to point out that the developers are being lazy and copy-pasting the same crap over and over again.
Also, who told you about the storyline/plot???? Are you talking about the what is mentioned in the trailer? How can you judge a plot/storyline based on a trailer???

What???? First of all Max Payne was already a generic shooter apart from the injection of Bullet time. And second, Max Payne was a Third Person Shooter. Don't hate just because you want to seem different.

So forgettable you have forgotten Wahlberg's name. :)
But yeah, I don't recommend anyone to see that movie for any reason.
Wahlberg can occasionally act though, he was great in The Departed.

These are not the creators of Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2. These are people who have paid some money to the creators.

LOL @ "generic shooter". Doesn't sound like you played Max in 2001. Since it's so generic, it must have copied other games - which games? Try to name even one that is significantly like Max.

Also, LOL @ "apart from the injection of Bullet time". The way Max plays is totally dictated by bullet time, it's the defining feature of the game. Doom was also a generic shooter apart from having demons from Hell, LAN multiplayer, height differences and dynamic lighting...

@Pia : I'll name some. :EDIT:, Star Trek: The Fallen, Duke Nukem (zero hour and Time to Kill). I mentioned generic bcos, when i first played Max Payne, i instantly felt that ive done this before. But Bullet Time is what blew my brains out. Dont get me wrong, please. I am a big big fan of the "noir" style of Max Payne, but to criticize something that is not even out yet is something that i do not agree with.

And i really dont want to start a flame war here. I apologise if i've hurt any sentiments.

Looks good, man I have no PC to play this though and I'm sure it will absolutely suck balls in comparison on the 360. Not graphically, but using its stupid controller. This game needs a mouse!

I didn't decide anything it's just an opinion dude.

The story seems quite clear to me from the trailers i've watched, IDK..

Lol. Yep, that's my exact motivation for criticizing the game, because I want to seem different.. It couldn't possibly be because this is being developed by a different studio entirely, or that it takes place in jungle, or that the story is based on rescuing someone dude's bimbo wife, or that there is not indication that the original style will be present whatsoever.

Sure, it could be ok, but I still hold my opinion that this isn't a Max Payne game. It could be a decent action game. I'll guess we'll see. But this is so far from what I and many others think of when the name Max Payne is mentioned that I fail to see how it has much of anything to do with the original games besides the name alone. I'd "love" to to be proven wrong, but from the looks of things so far i'm not getting my hopes up.
