Great trade for Dallas obviously, they get rid of a basically worthless "center" in Raef. The biggest concern is still their big men. While their supposed "terrible" defense is often exaggerated, it's still going to be awfully hard to win a title without an aggressive big man in the front court. The Lakers and Spurs, winners of the last 5 titles, all have had elite big men. The Kings, who could've easily won at least one title the last two years, have had elite big men. IMO, Dallas needs an elite defensive specialist that's at least 6-10. A Walker for Ratliff trade would make the Mavs a killer squad this year, but I doubt it'll happen.

One thing's for sure, this season is turning out to be one hell of a year.

i was thinking that as well......Walker is much better trade bait than LaFrentz. Getting Ratliff for interior defense would be great for Dallas.

I agree this NBA season has so many subplots....i'm can't wait for the season to start! 😀

How does this possibly help the Celtics? Granted I know absolutely nothing about the players they got, but you'd at least think they'd try to pull a Steinbrenner and get some marquee players, not more jobbers.

Boston had salary cap problems. They see Pierce as the cornerstone player and Vin Baker is untradeable. They don't think the combo of Walker and Pierce is good enough to get them to the finals. So Walker had to be the one to go. Ainge thinks he is getting a good East-style center in LaFrentz, who should in that division average a double double with 3 blocks a game. Welsch could be a steal for Boston, he has a lot of talent and could flourish into a nice shooting guard. Welsch wasn't going to get any playing time in Dallas, so it's a good trade from his standpoint. Plus Walker was not a model citizen in Boston and I think he wore his welcome out. That could be good for Dallas, because like Nick Van Exel, Walker could flourish on a team that is winning, even at a reduced role.

Maybe they'll play Nowitzki at Center, Jamison at PF, Walker at SF, Finley at SG, and Nash at PG. The Mavs got ripped off! Walker has no defense and he turns the ball over too much. He makes a lot of 3 pointers but who wouldn't taking THAT MANY shots? lol

Is this a move to stay in the game with the Lakers?
