Funny - I'll be staying in Scottsdale, AZ for at least a few days, but up to a week, beginning this weekend. Let me know if you'd like to meet up!

Or someone organize a meetup! I'd be ALL for it!

Actually it's working out. I'm going on job interviews all around the country as I drive. Meeting lots of people, lots of companies, and who knows - perhaps I'll take one!

lol...

glad to see your doing something productive.

yes do travel, maybe a new city might just spark your heart.

If you haven't planned your route out exactly, how does this work? Do you just quickly check for jobs once you know for sure what your next destination will be? Doesn't it take awhile to hear back from the companies? If you aren't staying in each city for very long, how do you actually get the interviews? Or do you just send out apps to cities you think you "might" be visiting, and then sort it out later?

The latter.

And I'm honest with them, too.

The tech field is pretty in high demand right now.

What sort of jobs are you looking for? Do you mean "tech" as in IT?

I do Linux/Unix/FreeBSD Systems Administration and Database Development/Administration (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.). The latter is especially handy.

I'm also trying to grow my company while on the road.

http://www.bitvenue.com/

But I've been so busy right now (through the company) that I haven't even had time to finish the website. I'm working on it.

Basically, we do dedicated servers, managed servers, application development, consulting, etc. etc.

It pretty much runs itself which is nice, because I don't think I could ever 100% work for myself and be happy - I like having a day job to go to and interact with people.

I'm currently in Austin. Had a fun time last night - got to meet Leslie (wikipedia search will show you quickly who Leslie is - he is nice and ran for mayor once!)

Trying to decide how to get to New Mexico at this point - not sure whether I should go route 10 through El Paso or head West and go through White Sands and then pick up Route 10. Any suggestions?

either way it's boring and ugly. taking 290 over to 10 at least you can go through el paso. going up through the pecos region and ruidoso is just flat boring.

If you happen to be in/near Winslow, AZ on the 4th of July I will be glad to supply you with bbq and booze. The AZ crew office for BNSF Railway is also located there. . .

I would suggest taking I-10 to Fort Stockton, TX then heading North on US-285 to Carlsbad, NM and check out the caverns and then maybe head north to Roswell or West from there to Alamogordo and White Sands.

Some things to see along the way if you have time...
Get some Peaches in Fredericksburg or Stonewall.
There is a big arse statue of Davey Crockett in Ozona.
Take a detour off of I-10 on TX-290 and check out the ruins of Fort Lancaster.
Enjoy the giant emptiness that is West Texas and don't hit any deer.

Marked for later! :)

Right now I'm sitting in Taylor, TX waiting for the Texas Eagle to come through. Bought myself a $9 ticket to ride it into Austin to join the festivities and hang out with my friends .... at 6:00 PM. It's running 3 hours, 29 minutes late. And that's just an estimate.

Oh my, to finally experience all there is to experience about Amtrak's long distance routes sharing with the freight railroads :)

It's okay - one of the Union Pacific guys hooked me up with a mini tour. Now I'm just sitting here enjoying the UP diesel's go by while I surf ATOT and update my blog.

EDIT: Now it's closer to 4 hours - w00t - all part of the experience!

I figured as much from the title of your blag.

My dad is an engineer for BNSF and can probably tell you anything you need to know as far as running trains goes.

We are also planning at least one fishing trip, if that is of any interest.
