Remember how they said they woke up more people in the past 6 months than they have in the past 6 years? So it's a very rare event. Those that were in Zion, were mostly adults... so they probably would push any 'odd' feelings they had as just abnormal experience or something. Neo waking up, is that VERY rare individual that realized the true nature of the Zion reality.

hmm, i don't think so. the original matrix has a population of several million - not the 6+ billion that actually exist in real life. therefore, 1% of say, 20 million, is 200,000. add 50,000 born within zion and you got your population right there. anyway, i really don't think we should be arguing on this because it's not really supported by any "facts" from the movie. they are just very loose interprations.

The original matrix as the one Neo came from? You're saying it only has a population of several million? Where did they say this?

i think we can go back and forth, ad infinitum, about this. there are details in the movie to support each scenario, and even the same detail can be interpretted differently to support different scenarios. but like i said in my first post, there really are alot of ways to interpret this movie, and although i feel that the matrix w/in a matrix is the most plausible and most supported, i'm still entertaining other possibilities - because it's fun, but mostly because i'm really hoping that reality isn't simply a second matrix.

for now, good night. i have work tomorrow morning - bleh.
it's been fun.

you are all driving me and each other nuts with your theories. this is how it most likely goes down:

-there is one matrix. zion is in the real world.
-neo has some kind of supernatural machine-stopping power outside the matrix. in the real world.
-smith is able to take over people (ie bane) outside the matrix. in the real world.

bear in mind that neo can see into the future, remember? how is that explained logically? if he has some psychic abilities, why is it so hard to believe the other stuff is possible too? plus, the wachowskis have been quoted (no, i don't remember where) saying there is no matrix within a matrix, so that pretty much answers that question.

Yeah, i suppose we'll know in 5 months what the truth is. As for what the Wacko brothers says... i wouldn't take their word for it. Are they really going to admit that Zion is a Matrix within a Matrix? I don't think so... at least not until Revolution is released.

I've only seen Reloaded once... the 2nd time i feel asleep at the Rave scene, so i kinda missed out on it. I'll see it again Monday or Tuesday though... i have no qualms spending the money now seeing how Reeves is how generous.

ok - maybe one more post. (i was gonna start another thread on a different topic actually :p)

i also would question the validity of the wachoski's statement. i doubt that they'd give out hints about the next movie.

Yeah, i'd rather they lie... not like i would hold it against them. I love being surprise, and really hope i am when Revolutions comes out. I NEVER seen a single preview or commercial for any LOTR or Reloaded... and i never stayed for the preview of Revolutions. I really do hope there are some good surprises for Revolutions... but i just love thinking about Reloaded. I really wished it was on DVD, but i'm definitely going to see it for a 3rd time at least.

Yeah, i don't mind being wrong. It's somethign to think about until the movie is out. I would read Matrix and Philosophy, but that doesn't seem like what i'm looking for.

Good link! I have to say, i agree with most of what he says.... including the reasons why the Machines created the Matrix. It wasn't to harness our energy, but to serve us. I believe this in another slightly different ways though... without us, the Machines would have no reason to exist. They're machines, so they have no instinct for procreation. Instead, they keep humans alive to learn from them. From every version of the Matrix, they're learning a bit more about humanity and behaviors, about our discovery of the world, etc. I believe that's the reason why they keep the humans around. It has nothing to do with energy.

I'm not too sure i entirely agree with all his biblical references... his reference to Christ love and the purpose of him coming to save humanity... is a bit different than Neo's love for Trinity IMO... but that's still a very good article.

I have no idea what he meant by:

Neo's own gift of prophecy is explainable by the fact that, like the Oracle (the Gnostic Sophia, or Holy Wisdom?the female Godhead), he comes from beyond the Matrix?that is, the world?and thus exists outside of time, much like God in St. Augustine's theology.

And i've studied St. Augustine more than i would like.
