truth is hard for radical feminists
according to them every other college girl is raped and such:p
i guess thats where poor math skills come in lol, statistics are fun when you can just make them up.
science should have never published her article in the first place if it was so dishonest.

And you'd be wrong.

(6.8*3) + 6.81 = $27.21

OdiN can't do math either. 6.75 + 15 = 6.90 not 6.80

I didn't look at his math - I just looked at his answer (6.80 + 1 cent except for 1 person). Which is wrong.

This article seems to address that but explains it in more detail. Averages between males and females are comparable. But, there are more males on the higher and lower spectrum of the bell curve. Specifically, according to the article, there are twice as many white males above the 99th percentile than white females.

Someone call the NAACP. The test must be flawed. I smell discrimination.

But you still had it backwards if that's all you read, it'd be (6.81*3) + 6.8 = 27.23.

Huh. Kinda figured that.

P.S. Seems easier to me to reach the whole dollar amount BELOW 27.63 that's divisible by 4 which would give me 6.00. Then divide the remaining 3.63 by 4 again giving me .9075. Add the two together and you get 6.9075. Round up to 6.91 and fight over who gets to keep the penny...meh.

I'm a Chef and use math every day thank you.

(1c flour + 2 jumbo eggs)/3 tbps butter + (stove heat in degrees C)(frictional coefficient of teflon) = pancake?

I think there are plenty of smart women that are dumbed down by the societies' expectations of them... With that said, a lot of girls go to school (university) to major in education, which is quite possibly the biggest joke as a major ever.

Education is a joke? Where do you think our kids teachers come from? Have you ever tried teaching a classroom of thirty-five kids anything?

Very good, now try estimating those quantities in your head for 125. While doing the same for the rest of the menu, the four other parties and, oh yeah, estimate the order for the next three days while preparing said food.

Now, just make a tuna sandwich and iron my pants. Now you're more realistic to what I was talking about!

What part of being a Chef didn't you understand?

i don't understand why math skills are so necessary. for those who don't have the skills its not like they are f-ed its called a calculator or abacus.

What part of you being a chef has nothing to do what I've been talking about don't you understand? It's a sexist joke, not a chef joke. It's okay. ;)

Without the ability to estimate on the fly, you are hopelessly disadvantaged in most jobs let alone life.

Are you saying you keep an abacus nearby? What if you don't have a calculator?

Your post makes me think of an Asimov story where people forget how to add without pocket computers until this one guy reverse engineers the process by watching how the computers do it. /random thought

who doesn't round at a restaurant?

It doesn't seem like it was a place you would tip at.

But if we want nice even numbers:

Divide $273,770 by 4.

I can tell you it will end with a .5(not an integer) because the last 2 digits are not a multiple of 20 just by looking at it. Definitely doesn't make nice even numbers.

273770 is an even number, last I checked.

His point is that any multiple of 100 is automatically divisible by 4. Since 70 isn't divisible by 20 (which itself is divisible by 4) then 70 isn't divisible by 4. This is a trivial mental trick for those who are smart enough to handle 4th grade arithmetic mentally. I believe his comment about "make nice even numbers" meant that the quotient wasn't a whole number.

oh, incidentally, $27.63 and 273770 each divided by 4 are rather simple to do mentally. Or, to put it another way, "Jesus Fucking Christ, you're dividing by a single digit number! You people mean that you can't mentally handle a 4th grade division problem - one that 4th graders do in seconds? You should be embarassed." Unfortunately, our culture is filled with people who are innumerate.

I'd have to write it down. I have problems doing it completely in my head - and I could have problems even writing it down. I'm dyslexic and it's the worst with numbers. I'd do it right but might get the wrong answer because I swapped something somewhere along the line.
