"I did insult him, it's true," Materazzi said in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport. "But I categorically did not call him a terrorist. I'm not cultured and I don't even know what an Islamic terrorist is."

how does he not know what a terrorist is, yet deny that he called him a terrorist? what if he called him a synonym of terrorist?

I think most people agree that he deserved the head-butt, I just wish that Zidane could have saved it for after the game. :(

Yeah, that whole quote sounds very very fishy to me. Something about that quote just seems...off.

BBC Radio Five Live asked for help from a deaf lip reader, Jessica Rees, who read the words phonetically to an Italian translator.

She deciphered the insult as being "you're the son of a terrorist whore" - a translation also carried by many national newspapers in Britain on Tuesday.

The BBC's Ten O'Clock News also called in experts to study the television footage of the incident and determined the following:

Materazzi's first word to Zidane was "no" before he then told him to "calm down".

He then accused him of being a "liar" and wished "an ugly death to you and your family" on the day the Frenchman's mother had been taken to hospital ill. This was followed by "Go f*** yourself".

I think Materazzi is lying about the terrorist part, and about the mother part. That's a twofer :p in lying.

The only way for Zidane to save face at this point is to say he regrets not hitting him harder.

What did Materazzi think Zidane was lying about?

Also, two different lip readers deciphered two different things. That alone takes credence away from both of them. What language do Zidane and Materazzi have in common? English?

WTF? I thought you were doing that "alter quote for funny ATOT-effect"-thing but that is the actual quote from the website!

I'm assuming Materazzi gave this interview in English and his English sucks. Or he gave the interview in Italian and the dude who translated the article messed up. He can't possibly be THAT stupid, can he?

I think Zidane should have kicked him in the balls.

pig latin

actually italian. Zidane understands italian.
i was using that language for effect. ;)

que?

do you switch the first letter in pig latin, the first syllable, or the first half of the word? the first letter would make it basically an unuseable code language, while the first half would make it somewhat useful.

i was just answering the first question.

wow thats three posts in one. go me!
