I originally thought people were going to throw him in to the fire (public opinion wise), but a lot of the soccer fans (non Italians) I?ve spoken to actually approve and like the head butt. Even the media didn't react to it the way I though they would (you know, idiots who never watch the sport like Regis commenting on the head butt). I think this will blow over and people will still remember Zidane as the amazing player that he is/was.

i still think hes going to be considered to be one of the best ever. not as good as pele but probably the best euro player ever and definately in pele's league. he (and a couple other guys) basically took france all the way to the wc final defeating a bunch of teams on the way including brazil.

Come on. Soccer is not a gay sport. People who don't want to get headbuts/tackles or anything else should play bowling or Poker.

IMO the italian player (who is still a jerk) has been smarter than Le Zidane and got the headbut.

For the drama/show, it could have been funny if the Italian player has responded with a kick in the nuts or sth like that. But he obviously was a chicken.

He did what he had to do against one of soccer's biggest losers, and it was entertaining in the least. He already took France to the Cup in 98 and won MVP then, he had nothing more to prove. He won the MVP this Cup and carried his team to the finals.

Also, it's not like this is the first time he's headbutted someone (he did it in 2001), I don't know why it's being blown out of proportion. France was dominating Italy with as well as after Zidane was in the game. The only thing that saved Italy was the clock, France was running circles around them, clearly the superior conditioned team.

From what I read Zidane isn't a practicing Muslim, but he comes from a Muslim family. He married a beautiful supermodel.

His mother however, is very traditional and wears a headscarf.

His mother was brought into it and as a result the headbutt happened.

I doubt he would have cared if he was called a terrorist, but the fact that his mother was brought into it made him angry.

what player replaced ZZ in the PKs?

Since Zidane got red carded, France could not sub a player in for him for the shootout. So technically, no one replaced Zidane for the penalties. However, there was a player that took a penalty that normally would not have been in the first 5 with Zidane in the match, but I couldn't tell you who that would have been. Also, France only took 4 penalties since Italy clinched the win on their 5th attempt, so it could have been whoever was going to take the 5th shot that was Zidane's "replacement".

True. To say that ZZ lost France the World Cup is really stretching it. There were only 10 minutes left in the 2nd OT. Most likely than not, the game would have ended in a tie anyways. It was David Trezeguet who missed the PK for France, and most likely he would still have taken a PK even if Zidane did not get sent off.

It's impossible to say. Having your captain thrown off the field, and then realizing what he did is a hell of a blow. I wouldn't doubt that it had something to do with Trez missing the PK.

then thats the fault of Trezguet, not Zidane. Trezguet just missed by inches, which anyone can do. Trezguet should've made the PK just like the other 8 players who did.
