This looks to be a great signing. One of the major things they lacked was a scoring guard to help out Rose.

Once Gordon left, Chicago lacked another decent guard, PERIOD. This is a huge reason why they lost the Heat series, but I expect to see Rose handling the ball as PG in the 4th quarter most of the time.

Edit: Of course they would use that setup because they still list Rose as the PG. They should fix that ...

They are dropping $13M a year on Luol Deng's worthless production. You have a SF making that much money then he should be able to handle the ball and create his own shots.

Unless the Bulls make a move for a real star (looks like Howard has no interest in going to Chicago...what a moron) to pair with Rose, then the $28M a year they throw away on Deng and Boozer will keep them from making any real improvement.

While many questioned that contract, last season he put up 16PPG on 50% FG and 51% 3PFG and 4 RPG - arguably not the best rebounding, but I'd take that over Jefferson any day. As long as he continues on that pace, he'll still be a top SF.

At that price ($2M less than Lebron James) they can't get better with him on the team. As you said, the Heat absolutely locked down Rose whenever they wanted to close out the game. Neither Boozer or Deng did a thing to help out, despite the fact that they combine to make almost as much as Lebron and Wade combined.

What championship contending clubs have widely pursue Chris Kaman as a major piece? Sure, as a complementary piece he's fine, but "not that good" means what it is. You're not that good if your best role is as a complementary player. I certainly wouldn't pay him premium money.

Wasn't Deng an RFA and the Bulls had to match in order to keep him? I thought that's why his price was so high. Regarding Boozer, the douche has always been overrated - he had DWill feeding him the ball in Utah that pumped him up, and he's always injured. I dislike him personally because of what he and his wife did with their kids - in an interview, you can clearly tell they favor their oldest (whom has sickle-cell, and that's the reason why they have the twins.) I have no respect for him and Fisher.

I'm sorry, but I don't think they should have given up Kaman in the deal, and they obviously overpaid. Then again, my opinion on CP3 has already been stated, I feel he is highly overrated. Kaman plays pretty solid defense in the post, especially against traditional centers. He's a lot like Chandler, but with range.

The writing was on the wall when they signed DeAndre Jordan to a 43/4 contract... Clips clearly feel Jordan is their future, not Kaman.

Clips probably did overpay in my opinion, but only in the sense that they had all the leverage. They probably couldve held onto that no. 1 because that package would still have been better than anything the Lakers would've offered.

The other thing that would worry me is Paul's knees... but if he is healthy, then I think this trade is a win for both sides. Yes, even if they give up Kaman.

The new luxury tax looks a lot more punitive against the Lakers.

It may explain why they dumped Lamar Odom, even though I and many others consider him a bargain at $9M. While they might have moved him because he was clearly disgruntled, his cap-friendly contract (and team option) made him a very valuable bargaining chip in any trade talks.

With the old CBA, Odom essentially cost the Lakers $17M for this season from his salary and tax hit. The new CBA ratchets up the luxury tax so you will likely not see the Lakers outspend the competition by $30M/yr because at some point, it will eat into team profits. The Kobe contract become's a hangman's noose in its final 2 years (after this season).

A couple seasons down the line, if the Lakers maintained their current relative level of payroll, they could pay as much in luxury tax alone as most teams spend on their entire player payroll.
