*rolls his eyes*
I just can't believe someone would file a descrimination complaint regarding the labeling of computer hardware.
Let that be a lesson to people that know nothing about hardware to learn something**

I'm sure you've read that article before but man, thats just crazy.

Actually, when I first learned about computer components in '99 I thought these terms were kind of crude.

Great, so now we can all expect to pay $5 to $10 more for all hard drives forever because of a senseless lawsuit that profits lawyers only.
Nothing. Males and females have them, no "descrimination fantasies" there...What are the plumbers going to do about their nipples?

Anybody who gets offended by "master" and "slave" references to hardware componates is a FVKING MORON.
Anybody who then decides that a person, who thinks such terms have anything to do with race, is worth listening to, much less creating legislation (even on some pathetic little county level) is a even bigger moron.
A both types of people are probably bigots themselves.
Why?
Because the first thing that jumped to their minds is that is a racist comment and insesitive. A person who automaticly jumps to that conclusion has in continually thinking about everything in terms of Black people and White people. That's what rasists do. A non-rascist person will occasionally think about that stuff when the situation warrents it, but not in a normal course of a day.
And more then likely those freaks are completely INSANE.
A normal person of normal intellegence and is sane doesn't think in terms like that. A sane person who sees labels like that on hardware (and doesn't understand) automaticly wonders why something would be labeled "master" and "slave" in the first place. Not that it has anything remotely to do with slavery from over a century and a half ago.
Just like the first time you saw the reference to 2 wire ends called "male" and "female" ends. Then you looked at the wire and saw the end with they pointy things (male) goes into the end with the holes (female). It just makes sense.
That is a reasonable and sane response.
The following is not a reasonable and sane response and the person who thinks like this is probably a idiot and should be ignored completely in this context:
"OMG! That wire is further example of how a male dominated sociaty automaticly and subconciously assumes that a female (here represented as a RECEPTICAL) is incomplete without a male-figure injecting his masculenity and control/dominance (here representated by a phalic symbolic PLUG and it's electronic SEMEN) over her. This sort of references only further enforce the stereotypical viewpoint about female relatio...." BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Ya, that's why we refer to wire ends with adapters as "transgender" or "transexual" ends.

What the hell are these now, "forbidden words"? If I were black, I would be insulted that some one would think I were so pathetically weak and sensitive that I would be distraught by the mere use of such words. Give people some credit (Al Sharpton excluded).

OMG, ROFLMAODennis Tafoya, director of the affirmative action office, said in a separate memo that an "exhaustive search" had been undertaken to find all such labels and replace them with more "appropriate" ones.

It's true that the words master and slave are rarely used anymore and someone who isn't into technical stuff might be surprised to see them in use.
HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that it's wrong in any way. Master and slave are pretty simple, self-explanatory words, that had meaning before Africans were enslaved in America, and continue to retain those meanings today.
We should outlaw the words "whip" and "plantation" too!![]()
And "cable" too!We should outlaw the words "whip" and "plantation" too!![]()
