I agree. Hence why I said ignore the top pic it’s a volcano in the post. The rest are Beirut.

edit there’s like 30 videos/pics linked to that post. There should be an arrow on the right to move through them.

My god one of the videos in that thread is from the top of the building NEXT to the firework factory. How the hell did they survive to post that?

he posted a volcano.,. not breuit..
That is a several megaton explosion usually caused by a erupting volcano...

Click the button I highlighted to see the pics and videos from Beirut. For some reason the guy who put that stack of pics and videos together used one of a volcano as his top pic. I guess because it’s more eye catching in the IMGUR app. But the rest of the images are from Beirut.

Hope this clears up the confusion.

Huh come to learn doing some reading that apparently in Germany in the 20s it was considered appropriate to loosen piles of hardened ammonium nitrate with...dynamite.

Guess what eventually happened.

Uugghh... A couple of these videos show the shockwave sweeping outwards across the ground from the point of the explosion, and you can clearly see buildings being torn into smithereens and what looks like cars flung high into the air. :(

Horrific stuff. This is just brutal, really. I just hope it was an accident of some sort that set fire to those fireworks or whatever it was that set off the ammonium nitrate, and not an arsonist or worse...

Trump made some bullshit claim from the WH podium it was an attack.

How many of you morons here claim it doesn't matter what the President says. Isn't shit like this one way wars are started??
They don’t give a shit. Christian right wing authoritarians in the US are ready for any excuse to go to war with Muslim right wing authoritarians in the Middle East.

Trump is attempting to fire up the good old engine of fear in another pathetic attempt to win back the suburban mom vote.

It’s not like Lebanon was doing that great before this happened either—this article is literally from 2 days ago. Can’t imagine that losing your main port and part of your largest city’s central business district will help the economic situation much.

Ground zero after and before the explosion. Its quite clear from the crater which depot contained the ammonium nitrate.

For comparison, OKC bombing device used 0.92 ton of ammonium nitrate, per Wikipedia, so this is 3000 times more.
Yes, but that was actual ANFO explosive used (like Breivik's bombing in Oslo, Norway - another radical muslim terrorist btw), so that probably had considerably higher yield per weight unit than raw ammonium nitrate.

Not that this blast lacked in yield strength, gosh. The city's been devastated, and they were already having a hard time in the country. :(
