Mass effect

Finally picked it up now that it's down to $20 and started playing it on Sunday.

Went with Soldier - Renegade for my 1st char and so far I'm really liking it. Some of the renegade dialog choices are great. Think I'm about lvl 6 and haven't done but a few of the side quests so far.

At the moment I'm kinda torn between doing some more of them, going to get the women in a different sector or just explore a few of the other systems.

Is Paragon/Renegade a sliding scale or are each seperate?

Sliding scale. If you perform evil actions, you slide closer to Renegade, if you perform good actions you slide closer to Paragon.

How fun! 🙂 I've got to recommend on your next play through to play the opposite sex (for variety), paragon and as a Vanguard. It's my favorite class and it really gets more interesting the deeper you get into it. I used the pistol class for the duration of the game by dropping points into pistols and finding more powerful guns. It's so much fun.

Also, try your best to save up a million credits to unlock the acheivement that unlocks Specre gear. I know--it's confusing.

I recommend playing as a female at some point as well. Her voice acting is significantly better in my opinion.

Nope. They are separate. The game keeps track of how many Paragon points and Renegade points you accrue separately. It's not a scale at all.

Interesting. Once I finish my current playthrough I think I may try this.

I think I liked Adept more overall. You can lock down a lot of bad guys with all those powers... did Vanguard my first run, though.

Alright, that's how I was hoping it worked.

I've thought a little about what class to try going Paragon with, but I never thought about going female for some reason. I'll have to give that a try next round.

That's good to know. I haven't spent any money yet, and actually made a few thousand playing the quasar machine.

Did we play the same Mass Effect? There were 2 separate bars for renegade and paragon points.

Yeah - I played through as a male paragon and a female renegade, and I definitely wouldnt want to meet her in the street.

Jennifer Hale is so smoking hot.

I'm playing this through right now. Good game. Infinitely better than Fallout 3. Story is much better. A quasi-addition to the KOTOR universe if you just change the name.

Whoops. Shows how long it's been since I've played ME. I forgot they had separate meters (must have confused it with KOTOR).

Deceided last night to go after Dr Liara. Went to where it showed she was but had a few different systems to go through to find the plant she was on. I didn't guess too well and finally found her in the 3rd one I went to.

At the time I didn't know it was the right world, but I did find a bit of a glitch. At one point it looked like I was suppose to get out of the mako and walk because of rocks making a narrower path. I decided to try forcing my way through (did it a few times in halo 1 with the warthog, got it wedged in a few places though) and it took a bit but it worked. Got to drive all the way to the mine entrance.

I think that Bioware corp are perfecting the rpg format everythime they create their games. Look at the difference between KOTOR1 and this! To me, it seems that they were too restricted with the starwars story line, so they created their own(similiar yes) universe. I hope they make kotor3, cause i loved the first 2. Play Jade Empire, which is another favorite from bioware.

You can notice the improvement in their rpg format as each game progresses!

I cannot wait for mass effect 2... I think it will rock our gaming worlds

1) Mass Effect is really nothing at all like Star Wars. They both have spaceships and aliens, but there are huge differences.
2) Far as I know, there is a new MMORPG in the works based on the Old Republic. Not sure if it'll be called KotOR or not, but it will take place in a similar time period.

It still felt like a spiritual successor to KOTOR to me.

To be fair the Biotics in the game are basically the Force powers.

Yea to me it is as well. Just with a different setting. It's a good thing though. I love KOTOR so more of it is good.

Yeah, its not really a glitch but you are supposed to get out of the mako and proceed on foot at that point.

A word of advice though, try and avoid using the Mako for combat when possible. You gain a lot less XP when you kill enemies with the Mako as opposed to killing them on foot (or having your squad mates kill them.) IIRC, you only get 1/2 the XP for Mako kills. You can uses the mako to soften up targets first though, so for larger targets like turrets and Geth armatures you can shoot them once or twice with the Mako's cannon, then get out and finish them off with your Assault Riffle to get full XP for the kill.

I've spent some time playing ME as well, I created a Infiltrator - Paragon and was doing really well... up to a certain part.

SPOILER:

I'm at the point where you have to fight the Asari Queen, and Asari commandos storm the room. I just get absolutely owned 5 seconds into the fight. No combination of special abilities or anything seems to help. One attempt I actually managed to keep myself alive long enough to kill both asari commandos, but then 2 more enemies run in, and it was all over. Is it really supposed to be that hard?

I've considered just leaving and going somewhere else, under the impression that I'm not high enough lvl to handle this encounter, but the entire level leading up to it has not been difficult really.

Ah, the Benezia fight. It wouldn't be a Mass Effect thread without someone complaining that it was so damn hard to win that fight. 🙂

How I made it _easier_ was to abuse the stairs and get out of the line of sight of some of the commandos storming in. Pop over the stairs, unload your gun into them, back away, repeat. It is MUCH easier if you use the assault rifle for this fight, IMHO - the sniper rifle is just hard to use effectively early on. You also need to GET AWAY FROM BENEZIA. She will be tossing out random biotic attacks at you, and getting nailed by practically any of them will lose you the fight.

aha!

This is the key! I guarantee you this is probably the biggest problem I'm having.

Thanks for the advice, I will try this out tonight.

I recommend going Adept on your second play through. Like you, I did my first as Soldier and the Adept game was a completely different experience. High level Adept/Bastion characters are godlike, it's great fun throwing/lifting enemies all over the place. Sometimes you get so many people flying through the air it's like skeet shooting. 🙂

I'm on my 4th run now playing an Engineer.
