aha!

This is the key! I guarantee you this is probably the biggest problem I'm having.

Thanks for the advice, I will try this out tonight.

**STRATEGY SPOILERS**

It's true that it's a dificult fight, but the staying out of line-of-sight really is the key. The trick is to do this for Benezia (fairly easy to do), the soldiers charging from the North (near Benezia on the elevated stairs) and focus on the grunts to your right when entering the room.

Actually, take out the guys who are charging from the north and THEN focus on the guys to the right. Once those guys are down (I think there are three of them?), run over to that area and continue your fight over there.

For what it's worth I think the Infiltrator is a dificult class to play. If you're interested in playing the game again (and I highly recommend that for contrast), play as a Vanguard. The class is amazing at the later levels.

Went back to the citadel to start knocking out some side missions. The renegade points are flowing like water.

At work and can't remember but is this right?
Infiltrator is soldier + engineer
Vanguard is soldier + biotics

I'd agree, the Infiltrator has started to become somewhat combersome. The sniper rifle was great at lower levels, but I've noticed it is beginning to lose its effectiveness. Assasination is great for 1 shot kills though. :D

I am indeed curious to try both the Soldier and the Adept.

How I made it _easier_ was to abuse the stairs and get out of the line of sight of some of the commandos storming in. Pop over the stairs, unload your gun into them, back away, repeat. It is MUCH easier if you use the assault rifle for this fight, IMHO - the sniper rifle is just hard to use effectively early on. You also need to GET AWAY FROM BENEZIA. She will be tossing out random biotic attacks at you, and getting nailed by practically any of them will lose you the fight.

Actually, I think the key is that attacking Benezia hurts YOU... so don't shoot her at all, just take out the commandos. Maybe I'm dead wrong, but after trying the battle 5 or 6 times I finally realized that when I laid into Benezia with the assault rifle that my health meter just went down with every shot.

After getting Liara, I now have access to all the teammates. I've been using Ashley for more firepower, and K??? (the other human) mainly for his lockpicking ability. I used Wrex once so far when I went after Fist since he was already wanting a piece of him.

Was curious what player class / teammates combos others are using or have used.

I had Wrex in my party 90% of the time except for later playthroughs when I was going for the other teammate achievements. Otherwise it would depend on what class I was as well as what weapons and abilities I had. My first time through I think I went with Ashley and Wrex. I don't remember what class I was but it was probably one of the hybrid biotic classes.

On subsequent playthroughs I mixed and matched, although I've played the game so much it's kind of a blur.

I used:

Soldier + Liara + Garrus

Adept + Ashley + Tali

Engineer + Wrex + Kaidan

Basically try to get some balance of fighting/tech/biotics. One note - I do not recommend using Ashley and Kaidan together for the long term.

To me, it seems that they were too restricted with the starwars story line, so they created their own(similiar yes) universe. I hope they make kotor3, cause i loved the first 2.

1) Mass Effect is really nothing at all like Star Wars. They both have spaceships and aliens, but there are huge differences.
2) Far as I know, there is a new MMORPG in the works based on the Old Republic. Not sure if it'll be called KotOR or not, but it will take place in a similar time period.

It still felt like a spiritual successor to KOTOR to me.

didnt to me at all.

aside from the fact KOTOR uses a system similar to DnD, mass effect had a completely different feel to it. more...human. more like how would humans expand given the ability and in comparison to other lifeforms. i love the political aspect of humanity vs everyone else.

i love the backstory they created around the mass effect technology. like the strategies for fleet battles with the mass effect based weapons.

edit: my run through, i played pure adept, with mostly wrex and tali.

i found "fighting" to be the most replacable of the three. when i played through, wrex was all the straitup fighter i needed. tali was awesome, and my char as a biotic was pretty good.

thus, i never bothered keeping ashley around. i suppose you have to to get unlocks, tho.

Why is that?
Don't worry, you'll find out, even if you don't use them both.
Ok, I take it that it's story related and not just because they end up really sucking later in the game.

Thanks for no spoilers.

I know you can go to the lockers for each person to give/take equipment. Is there an easy way to go through all the teammates to assign points without having to go back and forth leaving than returning to the ship with 2 of them at a time?

I wouldn't really worry about assigning points for anyone you're not actively using at the time.

Yeah, there's really no reason to do this. If you need to use one of the other characters later, you get the fun of assigning a whole bunch of points at once.

That's pretty much how I've been going so far, but on my last side mission I ended up with a nice krogan heavy armor and was thinking of just assigning points to his armor stat so he can use it. As that would be one less thing in my inventory to mess with and there is a side mission that's on my list that I'll be using him on.

The thing that made Mass Effect much easier for me was starting out with the assault rifle, and then getting the assault rifle expert achievement. That will allow your future characters to start off with skill in assault rifles, which, IMHO, are the best guns in the game. It's a lot easier being a sniper if you've got something nasty for when they charge you. :)

Nope, there's no Spectre armor, but as with other weapons, some "brands" are much better than others. Colossus armor is some of the best, and Predator "letter" (L/M/H) is very good, but don't confuse that with regular Predator armor which is not nearly as good. Battlemaster is great stuff for Wrex.

Also look for Savant biotic amps and omni-tools, they are awesome.

Yeh, the assault rifle pretty much destroys any other weapon, especially later in the game with some of the cooling upgrades combined with more damage. In the higher levels you can pretty much run full auto with it and not have to worry about it overheating.

Although there is something immensely gratifying about uloading a fully maxed out carnage blast with the shotgun and just exploding everything on the screen.

:D

I tried my first run through with sniper/tech class and got throuroughly owned. Restarted with the soldier class and just plowed through enemies. At some point I'll replay with a biotic class and the assault rifle unlocked and really have some fun.

My adept had the assault rifle skill because of that achievement. It is pretty awesome. A lot of people seem to like Vanguards but I think an Adept/Bastion with an assault rifle ends up being much more powerful. I completely owned the game on Insanity difficulty (second time through - I do not recommend starting at level 1 on Insanity). :)

Do you by chance know which "company" makes the Colossus & Predator armors? I need to go back to the citadel and actually buy some licenses so I can buy better gear while on my ship.

Also can your teammates use the Spectre weapons? I was thinking of getting another assualt rifle for Ashley.

This is my first run through and I went soldier. I was actually thinking of trying the sniper/tech next, but it seems a few people are saying it's one of the harder classes to play.

Colossus is Kassa Fabrication, and Predator L/M/H is Armax Arsenal. Geth Armory makes the good Krogan-specific stuff, and Savant amps/tools is Serrice Council. Anyone can use Spectre weapons, so buy more.

All this info is available on the Mass Effect wiki, but it is wise to avoid such sites until you've made it through the game once due to spoilers.

Thanks for the info. I've been trying not to look too much at gamefaqs or the wiki. I don't mind hints and info like what you've and others have shared, but I don't want to spoil the story or surprises.
