Something to think about: The Electoral College gives the fundamentalists and their extremist factions a much stronger voice and much more power in their voting preferences as their strongholds are heavily concentrated in those rural states that populate the bible belt.

Majority rule (popular vote) will not be as important as what the fundamentalist Christian folks in these rural states prefer irt national policy making.
