The concepts of slavery and debt have been closely related for thousands of years. Just google "enslaved by debt".

Have a look at "debt bondage".

Debt bondage (or bonded labor) is a person's pledge of their labor or services as repayment for a loan or other debt. The services required to repay the debt may be undefined, and the services' duration may be undefined. Debt bondage can be passed on from generation to generation.[1]

....

Debt bondage was "quite normal" in classical antiquity.[2] The poor or those who had fallen irredeemably in debt might place themselves into bondage "voluntarily"—or more precisely, might be compelled by circumstances to choose debt bondage as a way to anticipate and avoid worse terms that their creditors might impose on them.[3] In the Greco-Roman world, debt bondage was a distinct legal category into which a free person might fall, in theory temporarily, distinguished from the pervasive practice of slavery, which included enslavement as a result of defaulting on debt. Many forms of debt bondage existed in both ancient Greece and ancient Rome.[4]

I hate to say she has a point. when you must work for the man, free 3-6 months a year or go to jail it has a resemblance to slavery.

umm, uh...no.

What Bashir said is inexcusable, certainly in his position and in his forum.

But it must really piss off any journalist to see that the state of politics has fallen so low to allow circus clowns like Palin to have any voice in the game.

Truly pathetic.

If journalists don't like that people like Palin have a voice, honestly, they must look to their own failures as journalists, and the failures of the media, for the reason why.

Just as soon as Fox ditches Hannity....

Not that I watch MSNBC. Its a bit wittier than Fox which is a mouth breathing outrage machine but still just as slanted.

Not sure if serious. I am not a fan of Hannity but he is no way comparable to that idiot Bashir. MSNBC is full of left wing morons and isn't real news.

Except that's part of the problem. My opinion most of MSNBC should go away, most of Fox News should go away. But if we have a circular dilemma where MSNBC needs to ditch a commentator before Fox News will ditch one, and Fox News needs to ditch a commentator before MSNBC will ditch one... it's part of why we are in the mess we are in with partisan media.

Yep, when you make Palin’s comments about race, you successfully divert away from what she was talking about. Over $17 Trillion in debt. $255 Billion a year just in interest alone. There are only 150 Million people in the workforce so that equates to $1800/year in taxes every working stiff pays just on the interest on the debt. Want to pay it off? Ok, every working stiff shell out $121,000.

She is a complete fucking idiot.

How anyone stays awake during a Sarah Palin speech is beyond me.

I'd stay awake by throwing rotten tomatoes.

But regardless of how pathetic she may be, have to say Bashir was WAY out of line. There's such a thing as professional courtesy, even for pundits.

So I guess Bashir's apology is meaningless from what I've gathered so far. He should'a behaved just like any commentator at FOX and never admit error so they'd never have to apologize for anything, ever. Which is exactly what they do 99.999% of the time. Folks at MSNBC get fired for screwing up. Folks at FOX get raises every time they come up with a lie that really sells.

I bet Paloo had nothing to say about debt bondage when Raygun or GWB increased it. So I guess the debt isn't the real issue then is it Paloo?

How stands the union Paloo? Still flinging mud and poo? instead of doing what you should do?

A dang foo like Paloo wouldn't know what to do anywho.

Honestly, who gives a crap. It might be an issue for a reputable news source but it hardly matters in this case.

Name one so called reputable news source in 2013.
Faux? CNN? NBC?
Look into who owns the stations. All stations. They promote their own agenda.
News? Reputable? Hahaha. I think not.

Has someone from Fox ever done anything similar to Bashir? Why didn't you condemn him? Typical liberal.

There is no defense for Bashir's comments. Pointing out how you disagree with her statements is just fine. Every last one of the knotheads who take this kind of VULGAR speech as normal and acceptable need help because deep down they are troubled.

There were many liberals though who agree with "Martin Bashir". And there really hasn't been a harsh enough condemnation by the liberals and far left here.
